Description

SP230NLGP: C230NLGP Lil' Native SLIPIT

Spyderco

Spyderco's remarkable SLIPIT family of knives combines the advantages of clip carry and easy one-handed opening with the broad legal acceptance of the non-locking folder. One of the members of this unique breed is the Lil' Native SLIPIT, which replaces the Compression Lock and lockback of the original model with Spyderco's “notched-joint” mechanism. An enhanced version of a traditional slipjoint, this mechanism uses spring pressure to hold the knife's full-flat-ground CPM-S30V blade open but does not lock it. Peel-ply-textured G10 scales ensure a non-slip grip and a broad-based four-position clip offers ambidextrous tip-up or tip-down carry.

Exactly what I hoped for
I like knives like the Buck 341 (which I have) or the Benchmade Mini Osborne (don't have it yet). I was hoping this would be a similar feeling knife but better for a wider variety of carry laws. So far it's been exactly what I hoped for. If I'm going non-locking I definitely want Spyderco SLIPIT style, and unlike the other SLIPITs this one's made in USA which I love, and it has a flat spine when opened... I have a Spyderco Squeak as well but I had a hard time getting comfortable with the shape of the knife. The Lil' Native SLIPIT is a keeper.BTW KnifeCenter service is excellent as usual, I emailed some questions ahead of time and got a fast & helpful reply. Very much appreciated.I can't comment much on the pocket clip, it seems as expected but I carry without.

Incredibly Good Slipjoint
Forget about this knife for a second and just think of the specs here: a slipjoint with a pocket clip, one-handed opening, a blade that's legal almost everywhere, and S30V. Pretty good right? This one does it one step better: you can use it without fear of it closing on your fingers. If you hold it by the choil when using it, it's securely held open by your hand. If you hold it below the choil, the choil will meet your finger at 90 degrees, making it unable to close on your fingers with the blade itself, so no cuts. I got this over the UK slipjoint because this is smaller, more robust, and frankly it's more attractive too. Love this thing. I use it as a marking knife most of the time, but it's great for almost anything I'd use a folder for in my workshop or day to day.
