SP276GP: C276GP Ed Schempp Retract

Spyderco

Designed by renowned custom knifemaker and bladesmith Ed Schempp, the Retract is a dynamic folding knife that offers exceptional cutting performance. Its most distinctive feature is its dramatically curved, full-flat-ground blade. Crafted from 9Cr18MoV stainless steel and somewhat reminiscent of a Nepalese kukri, its negative angle significantly enhances the knife's cutting leverage - especially on draw cuts. The recurved blade is housed in a handle built with full skeletonized stainless steel liners, peel-ply-textured G10 scales, and a partial G10 backspacer. The stout liners form the foundation of the knife's reliable LinerLock mechanism, which is machined nearly flush to prevent unintentional closure. To balance low-profile carry and immediate access, the Retract includes a lined lanyard hole and deep-pocket wire clip that is reversible for left- or right-side tip-up carry.

Great knife
Love this knife, great addition to my collection. Would love to see this knife made bigger with a sheath for a tactical application.

Definitely made in China
This review reflects poorly on Spyderco not KnifeCenter. Now with that being said I will explain why. The over all appearance of the knife is good. It is very stiff to open when you first get it. NOW THE BLADE who ever was grinding the blade profile "F" it up ! It had a hard vertical turn up at the tip. So they "F" it up and just sent it out. I thought about returning it and exchanging it. I thought about trying to smooth out the shape my self. I haven't done either yet..This not something I should have to debate with a brand new knife I was on a waiting list for. Yes its a "cheaper" Spyderco but they don't deliberately have to make it s*** That is why I gave 3 stars. Everything else is what it should be.

Great design, terrible edge
The design of the knife is great, only real complaint is the minimal lockbar access but the real kicker is that the knife came with one of the worst edges I’ve ever seen from a factory spyderco. The edge angle is extremely steep and will barely cut out of the box. Trying to sharpen it: my fixed angle system maxes out at 25 degrees and it was still thicker than that. Trying to put a 20 degree edge on it is removing a concerning amount of steel. Spyderco can do better and should be embarrassed by how bad this edge was from the factory
