SPK20PBL: K20PBL Counter Puppy, Blue

Counter Puppies are an exciting concept in kitchen cutlery. Their injection-molded high impact plastic handles are shaped like the stylized body and legs of a puppy. This novel design allows them to stand upright on a counter or tabletop, keeping them clean and handy while creating a truly distinctive table setting presentation. Counter Puppy blades are crafted from corrosion-resistant 7Cr17 stainless steel and full-flat ground for outstanding edge geometry. They are available with a choice of a blue or purple handle and either a PlainEdge or fully serrated SpyderEdge cutting edge. Man’s best friend just got even better.

Nice knife
Opted to upgrade my day-to-day use steak knives a bit and these fill the bill quite nicely. Still new, so haven't had an opportunity to sharpen them or discuss the results with you. They are well-crafted in a nice steel though and arrived very sharp. Wouldn't mind a bit more length in the handle, but they are workable for sure. Also the color is a bit odd. I can live with that, but thinking the purple model I've heard is coming is going to be equally strange and the lack of a black, dark brown, etc is puzzling.

A nice little paring knife with a great feature, but “little” it is!
Ooooh, it felt like a long time waiting for this puppy, and it was—2 months of pre-order wait. So yeah, I was excited when I saw “that orange box” had arrived today! This knife is going to see a lot of use in my kitchen, along with its MUCH bigger brother, the Santoku. (My Santoku is like 15-20 years old and still going strong!)I love the design of the Counter Puppy, and the feature that enables it to “stand” on the counter is worthy of endless praise. The knife came out of the box quite sharp, with no need for any adjustment before use. The blade seems to be a touch thicker than the Victorinox paring knife that I’m used to. I noticed when I cut something for the first time with this knife: a tomato. So I measured them: The Victorinox is about 1mm thick at the spine, whereas the Counter Puppy is about 1.5mm thick. I could feel the difference as it slid through the tomato, but it’s not going to be a problem. The one deficiency I feel this knife has is that the handle is made for rather small hands. My hands aren’t huge, but the knife feels undersized. I think that the handle should have been made about .75” longer. And the blade would be better if it were a full 4” long. Also, I would like the “blue” handle to be a truer blue—royal or electric. The blue of this handle is kind of dull and un-thrilling. I would just as soon have a black handle offered. I can’t comment on sharpenability, material quality, or durability at this time. Those will take time to assess, naturally. But I do recommend this knife. Undersized handle or not, it’s a good little kitchen worker.
