Fantastic knife and great addition to my tackle box!

Benchmade has once again designed a great knife. I have been waiting quite a while for the perfect water knife and this just might be it. Looking very forward to using this while fishing. Magnacut is the perfect steel for a water knife with its superior corrosion resistance. The action on this knife out of the box was perfect. It flicked open on the first attempt and blade returns all the way when released. The action out of the box is better than every other Benchmade knife I have bought. It also was very sharp out of the box. This is my first knife with Grivory and I'm very impressed. It is very stiff with very little flex. The weight and feel of this knife if great. I'm not a pocket clip person so I removed the pocket clip. The texture on the scales is very grippy which should prove very helpful with wet hands. Fantastic knife overall.

Good!! Benchmade actually starting to listen to customers???!!

Surprisingly a good Benchmade! Haven't been able to say that in a very long time. It's not horrendously over priced (still kinda borderline but acceptable) Awful and I mean awful sharpening job from the factory. Under heat treated is still a problem with benchmade knifes. 62-64 should be the industry standard for magnacut point blank. But Benchmade really does under heat treat almost every knife they produce. And the action out of box is pretty bad. All that considered it's still the first Benchmade I've actually really liked in a long time. The box needs to be rethought tho. There's probably 30$ in the box alone. As a customer I don't like paying for that. Completely waste of money. Cheaper box and relay that savings to the customer and this would be a home run at 200$ all things considered. After a full day of flipping open and closed and adding some nano oil the action is much much better almost perfect already. The fit in my average hands feels great also. And surprisingly light for the size and no flex in the grips. I do recommend this knife as a EDC and I feel Benchmade is starting to listen to the customer with these water series knifes. If they could get the heat treat correct and sharpening better I'd have rated this a easy 5 stars. If that all was correct I'd happily pay 250 for a proper heat treated and sharpened Benchmade. This is definitely a step in the right direction for benchmade after tons of awful releases. I like the pocket clip a lot more on this knife and I also love the texture on this knife a ton!

Light, comfortable in hand, sluggish action

Normally I try not to be an early buyer of a new knife line, but KC’s early sale price pulled me in. I fish on the kayak often (mostly saltwater) so the knife accompanies me on my PFD. Pros: knife is appropriately light, surprisingly comfortable considering the grip material and has very useful blade geometry in premium steel. The blade has resisted any corrosion thus far and retained a sharp cutting edge. Cons: the opening and closing action feels sluggish. I’m not a knife fidgeter, but my expectations have been set to expect a snappy opening. This slides open and closed, but it feels slow. I’m sure if it stays out of the water it could be snappier, but that’s not how I use it. Sand and grit present a problem for any folding knife on the water, and this is no different - it’s a chore to keep clean. For my usage, a small fixed blade is the way to go. Summary: good knife with premium materials, useful blade geometry and an outstanding warranty, but the folding mechanism isn’t the best fit for what I use it for.

First Benchmade

Although I would consider myself a collector I'm also always on the search for a good EDC I'm trying it as an EDC - I would consider the work Handyman work, so it sees a variety of different materials. Its light weight is surprising. It has a great blade steel. It feels a little plastic like for the handle, but I also have not had a knife with this type of handle material

Not well-designed for marine use

This is fine for an everyday carry knife, but there are countless other options available that are as good or better. The biggest problem is that this is marketed as a “water“ knife, boasting about the Magnacut steel blade. The blade steel is great, but Benchmade cheaped out on the materials used in the pivot mechanism and spacers. Because they used cheap grade steel and bronze, these will create a galvanic effect with the steel in the blade when the knife is immersed in a catalyst like salt water, which will quickly result in rust in the mechanism. This could have been easily avoided had they used the same steel as the blade in the other components, and/or if they had used something like Teflon or nylon spacers instead of bronze. Ultimately, I see this as a slap in the face of Benchmade’s customers since they are being charged exceedingly high prices for a product misleadingly marketed as optimal for use in water environments, when it’s clearly not.
