Classic design, excellent execution

Civivi makes very good knives, especially at this pricepoint. I bought this knife for a friend and the damascus version for myself and I think my friend got the better deal. The linen micarta feels great in the hand, giving positive traction and an element of character to this very utilitarian blade shape. The button lock is the key for me: locks the knife closed AND open, and easily works as designed. I agree, it's not as "fidget friendly" as my benchmades or arc-lock'd SOGs, but it doesn't need to be. The lock works, my fingers aren't in the blade's path. A great knife.

Fidget Heaven!

This is a 3.5” Sandvick blade with a button lock that makes it unable to put down. Light fills the palm and the action is like water over glass. These are a must have price point superstar!

Form follows function

You get a lot of blade for this light weight. It is elegant both open and closed. No wasted angles or shapes on the handle or blade. The lozenge shape fits nicely in the pocket. Sure the scales are flat slabs, but there is not a rough edge on it. Seems like it has nothing to prove -- there are no logos etched on the blade. It opens and closes with a subtle wrist movement; no flick needed. It just is what it seems and does what it should.

It's different. Can't say it's bad but it is different.

I like the Elementum line from Civivi but the standard flipper's blade is a bit on the short side. The Button Lock version caught my eye not only for the unique deployment but also the 3.47" blade. Build quality is what you would expect from Civivi. It's solid and feels good in the hand. The button lock only needs a slight flick of the wrist to deploy the blade. Too much and the blade can bounce back and not lock. Closing it is smooth as well. I'm a little nervous about taking it apart to service the knife and will wait until Nick Shabazz shows me the way. The action out of the box is great so I don't see the need to take it down, clean it up and lubricate things immediately. It lacks the "thunk" sound and feel of a flipper and Civivi really needs to offer this size Elementum in a flipper (HINT HINT). If they do that, it may very well be the perfect EDC knife. As is, it's a different kind of knife and perfect for the fidgety sort. I can't say it's a terrible knife, but it's going to take some time to get used to. I've grown fond of back flipper knives for ease of/one-handed deployment. I don't regret pickup up the Button Lock and will give it a fair shake and it may sway me away from the flipper style knives.

Cons: Lock Ease of Use

Disappointed in the button lock

I recently bought a Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight with their compression lock. I've gotten to enjoy using it to both open and close the knife. I hoped for a similar experience with the Civivi button lock. It works, but it requires a lot of wrist flicking action to open the blade, whereas the Para3 takes only a small movement. Both pivots are fine, but the geometry of the blades seems to be what makes the difference. Most of the Para3's mass is located up near the pivot, while the Elementum's blade spreads out the weight all the way to the tip, and it just doesn't want to fly out as easily.

Cons: Pocket Clip

Great knife, terrible pocket clip

Overall knife is great, blade is wicked sharp, overall feel is good. The negative.. Pocket clip is extremely flimsy and weak. Working in a fire/EMS environment it lasted lest than a shift before it broke. Overall good for casual EDC. Hard use EDC, not so much. Civivi did NOT replace the clip either..
