I have hacked through miles of forests and it retains a good edge. No handle ware, no bends, chips, or warps. The only down fall is hitting a rock, like any blade. I have owned many swords, cutting tools, axes and blades. This one is my choice for reliability, workability and the price is outstanding. When a superior metal is found or maybe a longer version, maybe then I will have a new favorite.

Cheap travel ready multi functioning blade

C.T.R.M.F.B Won't lie I hate the handle and the strap but it takes time to break in the nylon so it fits perfect. Either way it is worth looking past these things. Using this blade to cut fire wood the saw is nifty but not big enough to get the leverage to cut larger logs recommend just cutting with the blade. Also get some sharpening tools it hold an edge

Don't let the low price fool you

I was looking for an inexpensive machete for camping, use around the house and to go in my BOB. This machete is great. I have chopped wood with it and it still has a perfect edge. It isn't too big or overweight and feels comfortable in my hands. The saw teeth on the back work great and are sharp and durable. The small knife that comes with it comes in handy. It is sharp and holds its edge as well too. For the price, this machete doesn't feel cheap. It is durable and well made. The sheath is very thick and doesn't feel like it will fall apart. The top part of the tip has about a 1" flat surface that is great for striking if your're trying to split wood.

Great purchase

Great knife for the price,,use mine everyday for many things. I carry it daily it holds an edge very well even when abusing it. Take the strap off,,get you wife or girlfriend's stretchy hair bands,,problems solved,,little knife is great for about any small whittle or cutting purpose. Almost 2 years,,still looks great. The handle matieral isn't hand friendly,,got a crutch handle rubber cushion soaked in very hot water with soap,,finally got it stretched over it,,awesome.

I had the old design this is way better. I labor for a masonry company and use this for everything. breaking bricks, beating steel pans' chiseling and straight up abusing this knife hard I can't brake it. has not so much as chipped any part of the blade excellent product highly recommend

great tool

This is great small machete. I used this the last two weeks of deer season and clear openings for duk season. This is great tool to take when you need to clear shooting lanes of branches. This is not to be used to clear a path thru heavy timber or brush. The blade is great on limbs and samplings. The saw can be used for cutting bigger green trees but is not ideal. I used it hard and WS happy with it. The small knife I use as a letter opener.

Great machete.Awesome value.

Glad to see Camillus redesign the carnivore into such a beast ! Not shaving sharp out of the box but it took an amazing edge with minimal work. It holds its edge very well even with abuse altho this is a machete not a bush knife. The best machete money can buy for the price by far.

Carnivore Machete

This blade has the heft to cut through tough undergrowth. Yet, It's lightweight enough to weild all day. The sheath is both ridgid snd pliable. I liked the inclusion of the utility knife to the whole package. Overall a good buy.

My favourite machete

The edge on this machete holds better than anything else I have. I've used it for chopping firewood when I didn't have a hatchet on hand. It's still crazy sharp after that kind of abuse, brush clearing, smacking it on rocks etc. Still goes through everything like butter. The wee side knife I've never used, I have better ones in my pocket usually. I just love this machete so much- and I have 6. Not as stylish as a bolo or a colima, but for general use it's my go-to.

Amazing for clearing light brush and small to medium saplings. Problem with the handle getting a little slippery after a bit of use. The finish also tends to reflect sunlight in my eyes mid swing. Overall however great machete

I bought my Camillus just to have some sort of survival tool in my pack. I have used and abused it in the few months that I've owned it and am very pleased. Works great for batoning sawing and chopping thick brush. The only downfall is the material the handle is made of. I rectified it by getting some grip tape from walmart sporting goods. Overall it is well made and will hold up to just about anything you use it for.

solid knife

Just got done clearing some overgrowth around the house and it worked well. Thick Gage steel had no flex to it and seemed to strike solid. The little knife will be perfect for my tackle box. As far as the sheath goes I had no problem, snapped firmly and held. Was looking at a S.O.G machete for $10 less, but the metal was noticeably thinner. I'd recommend this product to anyone looking to buy.

Very useful for the farm

First impression was this is an awesome tool for clearing brush and trees. But I was shocked to have snapped the blade off about three inches up from the handle. How this happened was I clearing a rose bush in tall grass and the blade tip struck a dense limestone rock hidden in the grass. The vibration must have caused the perfect tone because as I lifted the blade up after striking the stone it popped and fell back to the ground. Still very happy with the strength and razor edge cutting it provided us after a full year of use. Plan to send back for a replacement soon.

Carnivore X vs Carnivore

There is a lot of confusion between the Carnivore and the Carnivore X, the Carnivore doesn't have a full tang, however the Carnivore X does. Camillus had a bunch of problems with the Carnivore. These were improved in the Carnivore X. I have cut up downed tree limbs without any fanfare or issues up to 2"+ diameter of green wood. The blade is sharp, maybe not razor, but it does hold an edge well. I can't say the 440 Stainless is my favorite, especially for a blade of this length, but the cost is very low, so you take your chances with flaws in the metal that reduces strength. I will put it through a rigorous test through seasoned wood stumps and 5+" logs and see how it stands up to vigorous chopping and let you know how it goes. I am fairly certain that the titanium bonding adds some hardness and possibly some corrosion resistance, but I don't know for sure. I will do some research and see what I can find.

my small blade broke

I love my blades and I just wished that my small blade didn't break but I still use it every day when it broke it was only the tip were the first dip is but I just filed it down some and made me a straight screwdriver out of it but yes this is one of the best blades that I've owned for taking down brush

New owner review

I just bought a Carnivore X today and haven't had time to give it a work out yet but so far I am impressed. The Carnivore X is not to be confused with the Carnivore, which is not full tang for one. The X has a sturdy thick blade, what promises to be an #ss kicking SERIOUS saw along the back, took a razor edge (don't know well it will hold it yet but it sharpened up good enough to shave with), and the forward weighted blade should make chopping through brush easy. Only giving it 4 stars right now until I can get it out in the woods for a go, but just out of the box it looks great!

Amazing cheap beater

I use this blade all the times and the most damage I have done is one or two spots where I hit a nail. I have gone through the testing process and found it to be able to chop wood and break bricks with no problem. The saw can use an improvement. You can saw with it but unless you have the strength of a full grown man do not expect to be able to use the saw and get far. The teeth are place to close together causing to much friction. Not though the teeth are very sharp. About sharpness the blade came out a razor for me.I have not sharpened it once and it is still as is.The small knife I don't really see it as anything more useful than a small fish gutter and a throwing knife. Over all a great beater blade that won't break under hard pressure. The only things leading me off of 5 stars is the saw teeth position. When you try to put is in the sheath it tears up the clasp which bothers me. May not bother you so ou try it before you judge.

Thoroughly Tested

First, I have put this thing through the wringer while camping. I have used it to chop down many trees and then also to break them down into firewood over the course of a 40 day(!) camping trip. It still does the job today, but: The nylon sheath is decent and goes on a belt well. It also isn't too heavy for a full tang blade. The snap that holds the handle on the sheath sucks. Its hard to snap and unsnap. I stopped using it and cut it off. The edge is littered with chips and rolls now. It's a good stainless steel, but perhaps the heat treat is a little off on it. Definitely not as good as a carbon 1095 blade, but it certainly is stainless. It's not hard to sharpen, but mine is way past that now, it needs a hospital. The saw back in the backside of the blade is a poor excuse for a good folding camp saw. Didn't use that but once. The saw-back is nothing more than a glorified notch-maker. The handle is the worst part of the package. It literally absorbs NO shock whatsoever. Gloves help here. A lot. The little knife is useful for fishing and cutting paracord. Useful and light. Nice touch. On the other hand, it still chops trees down, and still makes good firewood.

Camillus Carnivore Machete

The actual machete is very good. The problem is the snap strap that contains the machete in the sheath does not function at all due to misplacement of the snaps. The machete is very sharp and when it comes loose from the sheath it will absolutely cut you in probably two places on your body. This product looked great when I checked it out at the 2015 SHOT Show in Las Vegas. It either needs an additional snap or a total snap strap replacement. I bought their similar model last year which had a Velcro type of strap on the sheath. The Velcro got flat through use and does not keep that machete in the sheath. I use them as demonstration items in my Hunter Safety classes as what to what out for when buying a product. No quality control or qualification/use testing.

Love the knife, hate the blade.

I bought the Carnivore to cut down the branches from bamboo trees and specially the knuckles. It literally bent in three spots on the blade. Everything else is great but how can other users use it for breaking bricks and it won’t survive a tree branch?? I have very mix feelings about the product, buy it if you don’t care about blowing 30 bucks go for it, I’m still going to find an use for it even if I can’t put it back in the sheath.

Blade not durable

I really like the handle and weight, but have snapped two blades on these just cutting 1 1/2 to 2 inch limbs. Steel seems really brittle. A little dangerous having the blade snap off. Wish the blade came a little sharper out of the box too.

A Cheap Import, save your money

Bought this to hack down some bamboo in the yard, it lasted about 45 minutes before it broke in half! I selected the Carnivore specifically for its heavy blade and it broke against a bamboo stalk, glad I was in the bushes and not out in the bush! Bonded metal does not make for a good knife.

Tip broke

I use this to cut light brush and small limbs. I was out today using it when the tip broke off about 2 inches from the end. It broke where the gut hook is. Doesn't seem like good quality

Blade Broke in Half!

I have used and owned dozens and dozens of machetes over the years, and this is the first one that broke in half. I had the knife over a year and had used it a few times and really liked it. Then I was limbing a maple I cut down and this broke when I tried to cut through a green 3/4" branch. I have beat the tar out of cheap Tramotinas (some 30+ years old) and they NEVER broke. Do a little online photo research and you will see all the many snapped Camillus Carnivores out there. I would have posed a photo but Knifecenter reviews do not have the feature. With quality control like this, where 100's of obviously defective knives get into consumer hands, you can be sure I would NEVER even buy a Camillus butter knife from now on.

Buy something else ....

I was going to use this as a general camp knife no heavy duty work, liked the looks and feel, great with no rusting ... however, after Halloween I took our two pumpkins out to the backyard, figured I would quarter and let the critters feast on the remains. I turned the pumpkin on a side, laid the blade 2-3 inches below the stem, tapped it with a rubber mallet ... SNAP ... now I'm holding a handle with 6 inches of blade left and the other half clanked to the porch. This was a ripe PUMPKIN ... guess I should have used this as a butter knife.
