CRKT Goken Flipper with field strip technology

Just received the CRKT Goken, excellent build quality, came razor sharp , well centered blade , the lock up is very good , no wobble in the blade when open , and the field strip technology works very easy,,,, well thought out knife ,,,, and a thanks to knife center for shipping so fast.

Wow. I was doubtful until today

This knife's balance is light, strong, and extremely maneuverable and fast in hand. I slightly tuned the blade tightness and ittt has zero blade play and flies open. I would suggest an occasional cleaning and oiling on occasion. Make no mistake. This knife will do many EDC tasks better than the other versions due to the shorter blade length. And boy does this knife slice well. Great for many things besides it's main purpose. CQC. This knife's weight is perfectly balanced and maybe 3 ounces. I am no martial artist to a serious degree. And I can easily manipulate some of Mr James Williams slight of hand knife grips. This knife I would suggest for amateur and beginner martial artists as I find the handle grip to be in my opinion. superior to the other 3 styles I have. They are wonderful but this knife's good grip and fast smooth nature with simplicity in mind seems to result in a knife worth checking out for Edc/combat/training. Very functional. Absolute joy to carry. And great even for chores like bait cutting/cleaning fish. As this can be taken down and cleaned 100%. Just get it or something you like in the Field Strip design. Mine broke in perfect within 3-4 flips and minor T6 tork screw adjustment. I would like to have seen a manual lawks system incorporated on a take down type system. No gripe. Just hoping to see that feature someday. I normally don't rave or buy liner lock designs. But I took a chance with this. And the liner I got locks up %99.5 perfect and the liner is strong and properly tempered. I can also peen the liner. An easy task. Or send it back to CRKT for replacement if the future requires so. But so far this liner has impressed me with it's strength and build quality. That rivals my $195 Hogue EX02 Made In USA folder. Great knife. And taken part time Edc place of my . Yes I like it that well enough to rotate in my Edc carry. Even better than my larger and more expensive versions of this. I got some thinking to do. I may return them in exchange for credit on 3-4 of these. I am a huge fan of Fieldstrip technology.

Excellent. And I mean absolutely excellent

I carry this for my main edc. The ability to take this apart and clean it is a great feature. The liner is also small and easily accessible if you ever need to peen the lock to make up for wear. This knife gets scary sharp and cuts with authority. I just sent CRKT an E mail on the idea of selling the liner locks themselves with the 2 torx mounting screws as an option. As this would make this knife the first truly 100% replaceable part knife. And great for those who are prepping and need a few parts to keep their gear properly functioning for a longer term. The handle construction is solid and the field strip technology is so amazing. In not only how it allows a knife to be completely taken apart. But amazing in the fact it has nylatron washers and could possibly be replaced or perhaps spares bought from CRKT. I own 3 other James Williams folders. And they all 3 are perfect working no nonsense stop dumb crap before it escalates. These are primary CQC but properly sharpened also can serve edc uses to a secondary degree such as bait cutting, slice fish, clean game, cut rope, basic cutting chores it will work for that as well and is often overlooked by those who never actually used this knife. Now I own all 4 versions of black CRKT/James Williams folders at the expense of $300 on my credit card. I feel so manly cool. They are cool and down right mean in a combat/real street situation. So yeah I feel really cool. Great ego boost to waste money on stuff like this others always complain they cannot afford. Save $50 and get a good knife. I am not here to be mean. But if you cannot save $50 for this 5 star knife in the year 2022. Then you may have other issues you need to seek help in and attend to first in your life. Rather than starving for a $50 decent quality knife with it's own advantages and style not played out half to death by WE/Civivi/Sanrenmu/CJRB/Reate/Kizer/Etc. What I am saying is that this or any of the James Williams knives are serious folders. Real men type knives. Not for tree hugger grape nut cereal eating limber hand type folks hint hint. Better realize the somber purpose and choices for the materials used before purchasing this. In ending. This is a heavy duty handle liner lock with a dangerous blade shape employed as fighter first. Utility uses second. Look elsewhere if you want to avoid attitude looks knife. Because this knife delivers attitude in Full Flushes all hands. And serves that sinister purpose well. You have been warned and know the truth of this knife. Buy at your own risk. This knife just for the field strip technology alone should rank 10 star. Use it like a knife. And it will perform like a knife. Shoot it wih a rifle. A few baseball bat strikes, Or pry test 1 inch of the tip in a fresh cut redwood oak tree. Yeah it will possibly fail from the person abusing his wrongly chosen tool. Get some help for that please and quit subscribing to YouTube extreme knife test destroyers. They are not what reality in cutlery is based on. Trust your manufacturers and stop supporting clones and fake made in USA stuff.

fix my last review

probably the best blade shape for penetration and slashing, the blade is right. very sharp. the handle is large and very hand filling,(a good thing imo) so if smallest size is necessary that's a problem. my biggest gripe was that the flipper had NO texturing on the outside, where finger comes in contact., at first that bothered me. crkt needs to take this blade and "envelope" and put an assist in it then keep all else as is (texture the damn flipper!), that would be a great knife. back to carrying this after assessing needs and going thru my "collection"

This is a classic design by Williams, equipped with the Field Strip system. The original price was a bit high, but I got it on sale, so it was a good deal. Since I own all of Williams’ folding knives, this one definitely couldn’t be missing from my collection.

Great design and feel in hand. Lovely blade shape BUT! The field strip really is a gimmick - not useful. This knife needs a ball bearing pivot AND a different lock mechanism. Carries well in pocket and could have been so much more. I guess for the price it can get a 3 instead of a 2.

That's not the biggest problem w/this KNOIFE....this is:

This could be close to the perfect knife for many of us. The biggest problem is the lock bar/liner over engages or extends and will become stuck on the far side of the tang. You will not be able to disengage the blade and close the knife. So, this is actually a one-time use folder or semi-permanent but weak fixed blade. I say buy one or the other, but not this one. You'll have to use a tool to get the liner disengaged, take it apart (the field strip is a big plus there) remove/bend/file/re-finish or polish the locking liner surface to make the knife a useable folding knife. At this price, maybe it's worth the work you'll need to do. I ignored the reviews that mentioned this at other sites, paid more and regret the purchase. Hopefully this review helps someone to avoid this knife or actually buy it because it's a great design BUT understand there's a high likelihood they'll need to accomplish this work/modification. The other two issues are the absence of texturing on the flipper and the very low-quality steel used. Take care!
