Still Killer In 2024

To echo reviews from years prior, this is a kick butt knife. Much bigger (in a good way) than I anticipated in terms of how well it fills my hand. These have apparently been in a box in the KC warehouse since debuting around 2019 and the example I received was still in pristine condition (wrapped in plastic inside the leather pouch, FYI). Flipping action is immediately excellent, the lock up and ease of unlocking is incredibly smooth, and the fit and finish is top notch. I own mostly overbuilt American-made folders (Hinderer, Reeve, Demko, etc), and this can go toe to toe with those in terms of stoutness, quality, and feel in hand...but I only paid $300 for it on special. The value at this price point is insane. I'm not a big LionSteel fan but will give credit where it's due... They killed it!

Gorgeous

Wow what a beautiful knife! Build quality is as good as it gets! Lionsteel really did a nice job on this piece, feels amazing in the hand the skins and inlays are perfect. She’s a curvy one but at the same time not delicate not a small knife definitely has some substance and heft but in a good way even my knife buddies are man that is beautiful but nasty! Great deep clip

Great Knife!

The blade shape is my favorite thing about this knife, but the handle is extremely cool also. The ergos of the handle were not perfect. The flipper action is excellent, it took a long time to break in the liner lock but once I did its a good fidget knife and sharp as he**.

Stunning

My prized knives are a one off Vagiano and a custom Harsey Folder. They have competition now. This knife is stunning. The titanium is darker than in pictures and the milling and chamfering are spectacular. The action is fantastic right out of the folded leather sheath. No lock stick on this one 36/500. Centering is perfect, lock up brilliant. Ergos are awesome, deep carry clip is innovative and excellent. I can’t say enough about this. These were released as a Blue Ridge custom manufactured by Lionsteel in Italy in 2018. These are the realization of a custom that Ken Onion never made called the “Mongrel”. For the life of me I can’t understand why these are still available. I suppose a distaste for recurves and a prejudice against spending more than $100 for a CRKT have conspired to keep these unpurchased. So be it, if you pick one of these up you will not regret it. Especially if you love a spectacularly beautiful and organic recurve blade that has been gorgeously crowned. These listed at $499, they are $425-450 on most sites. $365 is a steal. Slysz Bowie? Please. THIS is a knife, a piece of art, and an amazing fidget instrument. Just WOW. And yes it comes in a crappy cardboard box. If that’s a deal breaker for you, you don’t deserve such a fine piece. Stunning.

The best of CRKT by LionSteel

Upon first removing from the leather roll up sheathe, holding the thick titanium scales, the carbon fiber inlays, quality was not spared, not one bit. Though the IKBS pivot was a bit restricted, so I used some Tuf-glide which assisted the deployment speed greatly. The flipper action is quick on the mark, the blade has zero play, it’s firm. The frame lockup is solid and easily lifted. Sleipner steel should be for all intents and purposes considered a super premium steel, since it can retain an edge far longer than M390, but is about as easy as sharpening an S90V. The Motley feels great in the hand, firm, fierce and wickedly sharp, especially for a recurve.

Great feel

I was excited to open the box when it arrived. Thought the cardboard box that the knife arrived in was some was a little disappointing, for the price I expected more. Good flipping action, and the knife feels great in my hand. I like knives on the heavier side and this one is. The inlays on the knife are very nice, and I love all of the curves. The frame lock of the knife that I revived sticks a lot, and it requires a lot of force to disengage. The frame lock is the reason that I gave this knife 4 out of 5.

Excellent recurve blade knife

This knife feels excellent in hand, the blade is beautiful, comes sharp but a little stropping makes a difference. The flipping action is good, but I'll talk about that more in a second. The lock bar has developed some sticking and while you can fix it, it shouldn't be necessary. The knife cuts really well but the blade shape isn't great for cardboard without an awkward grip. Here is the bad... If you buy one of these in 2022 they will be old. You should absolutely be taking it apart and cleaning everything. Lube and clean the bearings and throw it back together with some loctite. Just get the pivot where you like it and leave it for a day afterwards so it doesn't loosen or tighten. Even after taking it apart blade centering was perfect.
