Solid Blade with a Tight Fit
I picked up the Columbia River CRKT Kit Carson M16-13FX Fixed Blade Knife for my camping and go-bag setup. I was looking for a reliable, no-nonsense blade that could handle utility tasks while being durable enough for emergency situations. So far, it’s earned its place in the kit. What I Like: Comfort and Control: The grip is excellent. The black G10 handle fits my hand like it was custom made—secure, balanced, and confident in wet or dry conditions. Edge Quality: Razor-sharp right out of the box. The SK-5 steel with the tanto combo edge (and those aggressive Veff serrations) makes this a versatile cutter, great for slicing cord, packaging, or tougher materials. Build and Materials: CRKT didn’t skimp here. Solid construction, good steel choice, and quality hardware all around. The included sheath is rugged and tough, built to take abuse in the field. What I Wish I Knew Before: While the tight sheath offers excellent retention, it’s very snug out of the box—almost too snug. Drawing the knife takes some real effort. You’ll likely need to adjust or break in the sheath before it becomes smooth enough for quick deployment. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of if you plan on using this in time-sensitive situations. Final Thoughts: The M16-13FX is a rock-solid fixed blade that punches above its price point. It's a reliable addition to any go-bag or camping rig. Just be prepared to spend some time getting the sheath dialed in to your liking.
