This one's not an EDC unless you are wearing cargo pants or shorts. So, for me it could be an EDC. The edge is really sharp right out of the box and doesn't need touching up like many knives do. Everything is solid and feels almost like a fixed blade. This is my first full sized Recon but not my first Recon. I have a 3 inch Recon 1 which really is a perfect EDC. Whichever Recon you decide on, you can't go wrong.

If you like playing with a knife this is not the knife for you. This is definitely a hard working tool that feels really good in your hand. When deployed it feels more like a fixed blade. Unlike some knives this one's razor sharp right out of the box. If you wear a suit and tie, this is not an EDC, However, if you wear a Tee shirt and cargo shorts this is definitely an EDC.

You know how they say that Cold Steel doesn’t make knives—they farm the manufacturing out? Well, whoever is making the Recon 1 is doing AMAZINGLY GOOD WORK. This knife is excellent in every respect. Fit and finish leave no room for improvement. The edge is neatly ground and extremely sharp—so much so that I declined to touch it up when I got it, which I have often had to do with other knife brands. The vaunted TriAd Lock deserves all the high praise it receives. It has naturally clean lockup because the lock is designed to be self-adjusting. This lock will not fail you. There are only two things that could make me like this knife’s design and execution more, and that is if it had a thumbhole for opening instead of a thumb stud, and if it had a slightly larger pocket clip. The one that it comes with is a little small for this knife. Maybe one day they’ll make such a variant. I really think they should.

This is a big, mean one. Very well made. The carbon fiber handle is a pocket-shredder but you can sand it. Lock is very strong. If you want it extra nasty, you can grind the false edge. Great price!
