Best Knife

I was given mine in 1982 as a graduation present. Over the years, no matter what new knife I try, I keep going back to this as my do all camp. Bushcraft and general skinner.

Cold Steel 35AP Outdoorsman, not my first Outdoorsman

Good news. Nice box, well packaged, nice polish on the blade, useful sheath, grind lines straight.

More icing than cake

This is an attractive looking knife but looks can be deceiving. A few things that have stood out once I actually started using this knife… 1. The 420J2 panels are VERY easily scratched. 2. The VG-10 core holds a pretty decent edge but it’s nothing special. 3. The “bone breaker” is nowhere nearly as useful as advertised and is arguably more gimmick than an actual benefit. 4. For the price this knife should come with a nicely sculpted micarta or even G10 handle not the same rubber material found on the budget line. 5. For the price you should get a Kydex or high quality leather sheath not a cheap plastic sheath.

Cold Steel 35AP Outdoorsman, not my first Outdoorsman, wasn't finished

Bad news. The blade is dull. The bone breaker is actually sharper that the cutting edge. I've never bought a Cold Steel knife that was not at least usably sharp until now. I will contact Cold Steel to see if they can fix it. Still it's a beautiful knife. I could sharpen it myself but I should not have to.
