great knife

I bought this knife last week and it was delivered today. I like it alot. very very sharp right out of the box and has a nice feel and balance to it. I like the shorter blade. I have other filet / bait knives but this one is shorter overall from tip of handle to tip of blade. the only con I have is with the handle. It's polished and somewhat slippery. I would imagine that will go away with time and use. otherwise a nice knife. Have not used it on a fish yet so that remains to be seen. but from appearance and feel I like it.

Fillet Knife Extrodinaire

This is one of the best knives I have ever bought. I don't have much call for skinning but for filleting and delicate cuts it can't be beat. I have always admired Ken Onion designs and this knife incorporates his design into a solid, useful, and good-looking tool.

Very nice, high quality knife

I bought this knife for my husband for Christmas and he loves it. So far he has used it for cutting our Christmas prime rib roast and it worked perfect. It is definantly the sharpest knife we both have ever seen. The only down fall is the sheath. The very first time my husband went to put the knife in the leather sheath, the knife went right through it. Later that day my father in law was putting the knife back in the sheath and the knife went though the whole and cut him. Perhaps they should have made a sheath that would be sufficient for the sharpness of this knife. All in all, my husband loves this knife. In fact he had me purchase two more. One for my father in law and his best friend.

Best boning fillet knife around

Superb knife, the fit for me ergonomically is top notch, a friend liked it so much on a recent hunting trip (he's a restraunter) that i bought one for him.

Excellent but for one thing

I collect knives. I bought this knife because I liked the shape and because I like Ken Onion's knives. I don't know I will ever use this knife in the field. It gets appreciative comments from friends. I love the look and feel. The point is VERY sharp and I can see why/how people push it through the sheath without meaning to. I have been careful but I can see where care is needed. It will cut! I gave it a 4 rather than a 5 because the blade is slightly bent right at the handle and angles to the left. This flaw would not detract from any use of the knife. It's only visible when held up and "sighted" from the rear.

Like the Knife but sheath does not work well with it

Just received this knife. Upon inserting it into the sheath for the first time, the super slim tip pushed easily through the side of the sheath near the bottom. I found this out after it sliced my finger open. I now have a sheath and a finger with holes in them. In my opinion the knife just doe not like to live in this sheath, as additional attempts to seat it properly show it is going to be fussy wanting to go in this sheath. NOT what you want in an outdoor knife. Why in the world did they not make a Kydex sheath for this knife? I also am concerned the leather sheath may not adequately protect the blade tip if you need to pack this knife on a hunt. I may return it simply due to a poor sheath, which is sad because that was so easy to get right. And, you have to have a sheath with this knife in order to use it as intended. Seems to be an almost there product, as the knife seems to be really nice..

Not bad, but not what I was expecting

My purpose for purchasing this knife was to have a good quality boning/skinning knife for processing deer, goats, kangaroo etc. I usually use a european swept pattern boning knife with enough belly to skin and narrowness and pointyness of blade to bone out effectively - I favour the Mora line as it has better steel and excellent handles. The knife, when it arrived, showed excellent fit and finish - no worries there. Materials are very good. The first problem, and one that may stop me from using it, is that the handle is too small. Certainly, Ken Onion's ergonomics are efficient and practical. But this handle barely fits in my (larger man-size) hands. I find it awkward and inconvenient to use for any length of time. Having said that, if you have small hands, it fits very well indeed. The second issue, one more of preference, is that the G10 handle is polished smooth. With everything covered in blood, fat and other slippery substances, this handle does not compare to a tacky rubber or textured hard plastic/phenolic handle. I filed some grooves for grip under the thumb position and on one side where the finger tips go, and it performs adequately. Third, the sheath is a poor match for the knife. I resorted to inserting another rivet in the end, as the very fine point of the blade would easily make its way through the very tip between the layers. Additionally, I ground the tip down so it didn't catch as easily when inserting the knife. I don't like super fine points, anyway. Fourth, it was not sharp when it arrived. Being so hard a steel, it takes a long time to get a good edge, and it seems to hold it too. In conclusion, this is a well made knife, and would serve very well for those with small hands. The sheath needs modification, and sharpening takes longer than most other knives I've used.

Needs work on sheath

The knife is a fine fillet and boning knife for medium size game up to a smaller deer breed. More of a fish and bird cleaning knife. The handle can get slippery if you let it get bloody. The biggest problem is the SHEATH. it should have been a kydex insert inside the sheath so the blade won't stick through it. I like to wear my knife when Im fishing. There is no way you can take this knife out of the sheath , use it and stick it back in the sheath, while its hanging on your belt with out the blade coming all the way through the sheath. I have stuck it in my hand, my finger and my leg. It cost me 75$ to have a shop take the sheath apart mold a kydex knife mold and sew it back in to the sheath. It would be no big deal if the knife ( I have the big one) didn't cost over 200.00
