Best in class

I recently moved to the UK, so I needed a non-locking knife. However, I wanted one-hand opening, so that rules out every traditional nail nick slipjoint. The UKPK is light as a feather and disappears in the pocket, but I still get a full four-finger grip and a half-stop detent for closing safely. Besides, the flat ground leaf blade slices like a kitchen knife, with distal taper for a tip like a needle. Nothing else offers this combination of features. I say it's all pro, no con, especially for the price.

incredible

I own many spydercos, but this my first slipit. I'm a retired police officer who spent 30 years carrying heavy tactical style knives and i wanted something lighter for retirement. I was concerned at first about the lack of a lock but after handling the knife i've found it's not an issue. The 2 notches on the back of the blade hold it open until serious pressure is applied. If gripped correctly, the index finger is positioned in the choil and will absolutely keep the blade from closing accidentally. Incredibly light and easy to carry. Blade is insanely sharp. My new EDC

picture is deceiving / wow, just wow.

I just received this knife today, and i immediately had strong feelings about it. The first thing I'm going to address is why I say the picture is deceiving. picture is deceiving . I say the picture is deceiving because this is not a hollow grind knife. The picture shown is an older model and the knife now comes in a full flat grind, which I think is better, especially for this knife. That is the only deceiving thing about the picture and I will move on to the rest of my review. wow, just wow. Everything about this knife screams wow in the best way possible. Out of the box, the knife was insanely sharp. So sharp that I was able to push cut through the extremely soft foam padding the knife arrived in. The texture on the FRN handles is rough. at first glance it appears to have a purely ascetic texture, but let me assure you, these scales have great resistance to any possible slippage. Opening and closing of this knife is super smooth. There is also the perfect amount of resistance when closing the blade. Considering this is a slip joint knife, i don't see anyway you can close this on your fingers, unless you are being careless, which brings me to my next point. The jimping on this knife seems superficial, but its not. It provides a really great grip that will provide the thumb and index finger with a great non-slip grip. I would also like to mention the choil for the index finger on this provides what I like to call a "safety zone". I call it that because if properly gripped, with your index finger in the choil, it will prevent the blade from closing on your fingers. I have had this knife only one day, and I have so much great things to say about it. I DONT live in the UK, so I did not buy this knife for legal issues. I bought it because it seemed to be a great edc utility knife, and thats what it is + more. P.S. my other EDC is a Benchmade 710, which I love, but I can easily see this knife filling the EDC roll....as long as my main concern is not self defense :)

Spyderco Got it Right

I got this for traveling abroad due to certain laws prohibiting locking knives. It is beautifully designed and made. Lightweight but sturdy, very easy to open with the oversized thumb hole and the handle is comfortable with a good shape and gripping surface. Another nice touch is that the mount for the clip is two discreet grooves that don't spoil the feel or aesthetics of the handle. I am not a pocket clip fan, so removing wasn't a big deal as with some other brands. Lack of a lock isn't an issue at all, the SLIPIT features secures the blade unless you do something really stupid like putting pressure on the back of the blade while you are using it. If you grip it correctly with the finger choil, you can't close it on yourself. The blade is scary sharp out of the box and the perfect size for an everyday knife. While I did buy it for travel, I find myself putting it in my pocket more often than not for everyday use here in the States. For the price, you can't beat the quality, design, and function.

Perfection attained.

As a citizen of the U.K. this knife permits me to have an everyday carry. That in itself cocks a snook to the knee-jerk and overly draconian laws that now exist. Anyone who knows Spyderco doesn't need me to tell them this knife is high quality in every department; weight, good steel, holding an edge, easy to sharpen. When held the knife oozes class, strength and efficacy.

Quality workmanship at a budget price

This knife was everything you would expect from Spyderco. The fitting , finish, and materials were top quality. My main concern was that since this knife has no blade lock that this could be a problem. I am glad to report that the two blade detents are very solid and require good pressure to move past them. Also I am very happy with this knife.
