Kizer Masu FAQ
Designed by Caleb Waldman, the Kizer Masu combines a finger-safe button liner lock with a slicey, flat-ground 14C28N blade built for heavy utility.
What locking mechanism does the Kizer Masu use?
The Kizer Masu utilizes a button-operated top liner lock. This design pairs a solid ball detent for smooth deployment with a push-button release, keeping your fingers safely out of the blade path when closing the knife.
What steel and blade grind does the Kizer Masu have?
The Kizer Masu features 14C28N stainless steel paired with a broad full flat grind. This combination produces a sharp, thin edge optimized for efficient slicing and simple maintenance.
What cutting tasks is the Kizer Masu best for?
The Masu excels at heavy slicing, piercing, and breaking down cardboard boxes. Its downward blade-to-handle geometry creates an aggressive angle of attack, while the generous choil lets you choke up for detailed cutting control.
Does the Kizer Masu work well on flat cutting surfaces?
The Masu is not recommended for flat prep surfaces like cutting boards. Because the handle sits lower than the blade line, only about half of the edge contacts a flat surface before the end of the handle hits.
Is the Kizer Masu a good value for everyday carry?
The Masu offers strong value for EDC at around $80. Offered in the Kizer Cutlery Vanguard lineup, it provides high-utility materials, lightweight handle options, and safe lock operation.
