The Work Sharp Precision Adjust officially adjusts from 15 to 30 degrees per side. Angle selection is dialed in using a threaded lead screw on the central tower, providing exact and repeatable settings across different sharpening sessions. Depending on blade width and thumb stud clearance, users can often achieve slight travel beyond the marked 15 to 30 degree range.

Yes, the Precision Adjust easily handles high-wear super steels like M390 because it uses diamond abrasives. Diamond is harder than any cutlery steel, allowing it to cut cleanly through wear-resistant carbide structures without premature dishing or stone wear. For quick touch-ups on wear-resistant steels, you can also establish a micro-bevel at a slightly more obtuse angle using the fine ceramic or fine diamond abrasive.

The clamp accommodates blade spines up to 3/16 of an inch thick and effectively supports knives up to approximately 8 inches in length. An integrated V-block in the back of the clamp provides stable three-point contact that self-indexes a wide range of blade shapes, from drop points to leaf-shaped profiles. Knives with thick stock at the ricasso that feature distal tapers can often still be clamped where the spine thins toward the tip.

Tanto blades should be sharpened as two separate edges rather than in one continuous sweeping stroke. Sharpen the primary edge first and stop precisely at the secondary point to avoid rounding off the transition corner. The front tip portion is then sharpened independently, which allows you to maintain or establish a different bevel angle if the tip grind is thicker than the main blade.

The standard Precision Adjust features a three-sided Tri-Brasive rod with 320 diamond, 600 diamond, and fine ceramic, while Elite and Professional configurations expand abrasive ranges and add specialized accessories. Higher-tier packages offer seven to ten distinct grits, leather strops, digital angle indicators, and specialized carrying cases. Standalone upgrade kits and abrasive handles are also available to expand standard units over time.
