Update of previous review from 2019
I would like to update my review of this stone that I bought in 2019 and previously left a review of. DO NOT BUY THIS STONE, IT IS TERRIBLE. The Suehiro stone is extremely messy because it creates a lot of clay powder which soils your knives with a brown layer of clay that is hard to wash off. This stone is thicker than most waterstones because of how fast and easily it wears out and has to be reflattened with a diamond stone very frequently. A flat surface is extremely important to proper sharpening and it loses it's factory flat top face after just using it once. This stone takes an extremely long time to get soaked in water, more than 20 minutes while my naniwa chosera takes less than 5. You also have to dry this stone for more than a week before the water inside the stone dries up because if you put it store it while the inside of the stone is damp even though the outer surface is dry, the stone will disintegrate and chip on it's own.In summary, this was a terrible sharpening stone I used for 2 years and last week I got fed up and finally smashed it against the road because of how much I hate it and replaced it with a 1000 Naniwa Chosera which compliments my 5000 naniwa chosera perfectly.

Pros: Effectiveness, Durability, Overall Quality
Cons: Ease of Use
Gets knives very sharp quickly, but requires some practice
For what I paid for this stone, I am tremendously satisfied with what it can do and how long it can last. It will get your knives more than hair shaving sharp with the proper sharpening technique. Be warned that it took me a few months to learn how to use this stone properly, in the first few weeks I was only making my knives blunt until it couldn't cut paper, but after learning how to use it and some practice, I can effortlessly make any knife sharp enough to slice the skin of my callouses off.

Performance of real whet stone at a fraction of the cost.
I have been sharpening knives for over 15 years with bench stones only. One of the characteristics for a good polishing stone is to be able to build up a slurry quickly and should not feel "sticky" when moving the blade along the surface. The stone is fairly long lasting and the first stone lasted 7 years of weekly use.
