Pros: Blade Material, Sheath/Scabbard, Weight
Cons: Blade Sharpness, Finish, Handle Material, Materials, Overall Quality
Not worth the money
Knife came relatively dull, and with some scratches on the brass. I really liked the bone version when I first say it, better than the wood handle. They are hard to find. The handle is coated in some kind of finish that gives the handle its color. The bone underneath is bleached white. This coating came chipped and is continuing to flake off exposing more bright white bone underneath. It is not stated that this is a coating and not the finish of the bone. The jigging goes to the edge of the scales, creating a sharp edge on the corners of the grip. Also, the finger choil is very sharp on its edges. There is major discoloration there the two piece guard is mated, probably from flux or something during assembly. It is not able to be removed by metal polish or cleaner. This is a very heavy knife, and the balance point is almost in the center of the guard. The sheath is very nice, well built and came in good condition. It feels like very good quality. Overall, I would avoid this knife if I knew what I know now. For the $170 I spent, I could have had a custom knife built, or found something nicer. If you have to have it, the wood handle may be the better choice. This is my first Bear and Son, and if this is their qc then it will be my last. I was hoping to get a high quality made in USA knife, but the price isn't justifiable in this case.
