BC501D: Genuine India Stag Bone™ 12” American Standard Bowie

Bear & Son Cutlery

Damascus steel combines steels of different properties and produces blades with extraordinary toughness and edge-holding ability. Known as the Steel of the Ancients, Damascus knives and swords have lived in legend since the creation of Damascus steel nearly 2,000 years ago. The ancient city of Damascus was one of the centers of production of this steel. That, combined with the fact that the steel resembled the damask cloth which was being produced in the city of Damascus - both having a “water-marked” pattern - gave this steel its name. Viewed under a microscope, the cutting edge of a Damascus blade displays tiny saw-tooth carbides which are formed by forging in a coal fire. This enables the blade to cut even when it feels dull to the touch. Flexibility is superb. Every piece of Damascus is as unique as a thumb print. When ground on an angle, as in a blade, the displayed pattern is stunning. Note: Limited quantities available.

one of the worst knives I've ever seen
Shame to be marked as USA made. Came totally dull, just like no cutting edge at all. Couldn’t cut literally anything. Damascus steel is so bad that you can’t get razor sharp edge no matter what sharpener you’re using or what angle you want. Hand guard material also very bad, came with some marks that you can’t polish to get it cleaned. Sheat: leather is ok but if you take a look inside you’ll find a piece of cheap plastic stitched to the backside in such a way that sooner or later blade will start hitting it. Having a lot of USA made knives (and that should stand for quality and confidence) I’ll say it again: shame to be marked as USA made knife. Total waste of the money.

Best Bowie Knife Made
The damascus steel is different and the stag handles are beautiful. Each of the 2 knives I bought were razor sharp and easy to sharpen. Bear and Sons are a true master knife builder, and I know because I grew up around master smiths . If you are wondering if this knife is worth the money it is buy with confidence and the knife will last a life time your grand kids will enjoy it after we are long gone. In other words just buy and don’t worry and when you receive the blade you will see why I bought 2 of them. I’m going to buy more in the future.
