Burnside Knives

The Cabrillo got its name from Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, a Spanish explorer who, research indicates, was one of the first Europeans to reach Oregon. The Cabrillo marks Burnside Knives' first expedition into the cutlery industry and it's a very fitting name for such a quality design. The Cabrillo features a 4" blade made from AUS-8 stainless steel with a black titanium nitrate finish. The compound hollow ground, recurved shape of the blade makes this an excellent blade for slicing. The handle is smooth black G10 over stainless steel liners with a superbly ergonomic shape that is locked into your hand without question. The thumbramp on the handle and the blade are both properly jimped and the pocket clip is reversible for tip-up right or left hand carry. Every aspect of this knife is black coated for a good-looking, tactical finish and it is made in Taiwan.

Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo (1475-1543) was a Spanish explorer who led the first Spanish expedition to explore the west coast of the United States. In 1541 Antonio de Mendoza, the viceroy of New Spain, selected Cabrillo to establish a trading route between Central America and the Spice Islands; an exploratory mission. Cabrillo's expedition is popularized by his findings of southern California's San Diego bay. Before Cabrillo's death in 1543, he ordered his pilot, Bartolome Ferrer to continue north. Research indicates Cabrillo's crew reached southern Oregon.
