Elegant design (but left-handers beware)
Ostap Hel's Pyrus is an elegant and functional design. The mini-hawksbill blade with double detent and ring-shaped handle is just what you want to reach for to open that box/pouch/envelope or to cut that small piece of string. The front flipper tab is perfectly positioned to open the blade, the dentent is stiff enough to keep the blade open, and the jimped portion of the blade is the right spot to press on to close the blade. The ring grip keeps your finger out of the way of the blade when it closes, whether intentionally or not. And finding the tiny slider that can be moved forward to lock the blade closed is like getting the treat at the bottom of the box of Cracker Jacks and discovering it's an ACTUAL decoder ring instead of just a piece of plastic.However, at least as implemented by Civivi, if you're a southpaw and want to clip-carry the Pyrus on the left, beware: Reversing the clip is a procedure that, if it goes at all askew, approaches rocket surgery. It's a race between opening the liners away from the backstop far enough to get the stubborn clip loose and trying not jiggle the tiny lock-slide out of its groove. If it does come loose from the groove, beware of the watch spring that keeps it from rattling—the spring is super-tiny and can easily get lodged in the liner grooves, and it WANTS to, because the spring tries to tile the slider piece as soon as there's any skew. Be prepared to use tweezers and jeweller's screwdrivers to help maneuver the slider back into place. Also be prepared to prevent the spring from, well, springing out and flying through the air; or to find it if it does. You may need to loosen the pivot screw as well. And, be sure not to cut yourself with the sharp, pointy blade while doing all these things.If you manage to get the puzzle back together with the clip reversed and without significant injury or parts left over, give yourself a pat on the back and design your own Rocket Surgeon certificate.
