CR2866: 2866 Russ Kommer Catchall

Columbia River (CRKT)

The Catchall is a rugged fixed blade chopper designed by Russ Kommer that helps bring your everyday troubles to task. The broad chopper-style sheepsfoot blade brings serious chopping power to bear without becoming unwieldy. The blade is small enough that it can still be used for simple tasks that you might use a fixed blade for. The handles provide a firm, weather-resistant grip thanks to the pronounced finger grooves and the rubberized overlay on the glass-reinforced nylon. The knife comes with a thermoplastic belt sheath for easy transport.

About the Knife Designer

Russ Kommer of Fargo, North Dakota, has been a commercial hunting guide since 1980. He started making knives when one of his hunter clients brought a custom knife and dressed an entire moose without sharpening it. He began working with noted Alaskan knifemaker John Shore, who took Russ into his shop and showed him how to grind. He began making his own line of knives in 1997, and his custom catalog shows a range of fixed blade knives, including Bowie and Camp Knives, Fillet Knives, Hunters, Fighters and Boot Knives, all available with a variety of exotic handles and with engraving. He is the designer of the CRKT Bear Claw, Big Eddy, hunting knives including our Pro and Signature Hunters, 30-30, and Surf 'N Turf, plus the Kommer Fulcrum and I.F.B. He says, “I set out to make a quality knife that would perform and be comfortable to handle. I have found knifemaking to be my calling, and would like to thank all the people who have helped me along the way!”

Butchering knife

I used this blade to skin and butcher 12 whitetail deer this past November.

The geometry of the blade made for easy removal of muscle from the animals.

It kept a great edge through three deer before needing touching up with a stone.

In a cold Minnesota November day the handle was perfect even with the residual slickness from filleting venison.

Very impressed with the radius curve on the blade and the sheepsfoot tip.

It was as if you designed it for skinning, quartering and basically allowed me to filet out a carcass.

Then saw the designer was from 90 WSW of my place.

Buy this knife.
Given kitchen duty, light duty for a well-built heavy knife, very sharp out of the box, great value, buy it.
