The lockback system has been used for many decades. It can usually be found on the knife spine and it provides a strong lockup that will wear well.

Love that triad lock
Love the triad lock on an inexpensive knife. Short blade works well here in California. My smaller than average hands work well with this fine handle. Wharncliffe blade is a nice touch.
