The Misdirect is part of Kershaw's popular Starter Series, value-priced knives that offer a variety of styles and solid performance. The Misdirect is no exception.
Its 2.9" blade is a perfect size for everyday cutting tasks. The reverse tanto style ensures the tip is effectively positioned for piercing cuts and enables the Misdirect to slice through tough packaging and open quantities of mail with ease. Kershaw coated the blade with black-oxide and finished it in BlackWash, an attractive combination that can also hide scratches.
Access the capable blade with Kershaw's tried-and-true SpeedSafe assisted opening, which helps you open the Misdirect with minimal effort. The efficient flipper double-purposes as a finger guard when the knife is open. The stainless steel handle is smooth, sleek, and modern. Bead-blasting gives it a non-reflective matte finish that looks great. The Kershaw logo is lasered on the handle instead of the blade to maintain the Misdirect's clean and minimalistic style.
The Misdirect's pocket clip can be positioned on the left or right of the knife in the tip-up position. A textured backspacer transitions into a handy lanyard hole at the end of the handle. If you're looking to get started in the knife world—without busting the budget—don't miss the Misdirect.
Features
Flipper - May be used on either manual or assisted opening knives. The "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle.
SpeedSafe Assisted Opening - Assists you to open any SpeedSafe knife quickly and easily with a manual push on the thumbstud or pull back on the flipper; built into many Kershaw best sellers.
Frame Lock - A portion of the handle (the knife frame) moves behind the blade to lock it into position during use. This is a safety feature of the knife.
Reversible - Pre-drilled holes in the handle enable the user to change either the tip position or the side on which the knife carries.
Steel Handles
Stainless Steel knife handles provide strength and durability and look and feel great.
Pocket Clip
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
Frame Lock
Developed by Chris Reeve, it functions like a liner lock but the lock is comprised of one of the handle scales. It's an extremely strong and easy to manipulate lock.
Pros: Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Lock Ease of Use, Lock Type
Cons: Blade Material, Blade Sharpness
Not one of Kershaws better offerings
Design and feel are great. While the price point is good for a knife like this after some use I have found that it does not hold an edge very well and the blade needs to be constantly tightened after just a little use. Not one of Kershaw's better offerings.
I EDC this knife. It is typical Kershaw quality. The flipper is a little "snappy" but will probably wear over time and smooth out (my Skyline did). The purpose of this review is to say that if you like the skyline, you'll love this knife. The blade profiles are similar though the Skyline has a little more belly. This has a shorter handle The jimping is slight coarse and seems an afterthought. But IMHO EDC knives are all about having a good blade shape paired with a good handle and manual of arms. This knife is pretty excellent for the price and again if you like the simplicity and classic lines of the Skyline, this will do it for you in a slightly more modern appearance. The backspacer is polymer and integral to a lanyard loop that is *very* well thought out (and attractive). The only criticism I have is that there is a "clicking" each time I close the knife that is pretty obnoxious. I ordered this as soon as it was released and I may have gotten a dud. The knife looked like a demo when received. :( I hope the clicking will go away once I detail strip, clean and lube it. I can say though I'm not a fan of plastic spacers -- you see those in really cheap knives (CRKT). So we'll see how it goes over time.
