KS2031: 2031 Inception Folding Knife

Kershaw Knives

Slim, stylish, sharp – the Inception is a dream to carry. Running on KVT ball bearings, this manual Kershaw opens and closes with fidget-worthy action. Its modern design looks great with formal attire or your everyday gear. A custom pivot collar adds a touch of class to the design. Along with its visual qualities, the Inception rises above work challenges with sharp cutting ability. The D2 blade is long-lasting and strong for cutting tasks. G10 scales help users keep a secure grip while slicing. This balance of refinement and practicality may seem like fantasy, but the Inception makes it a reality.

A Great Folder
I saw this knife on the Knife Center site 1-2 months ago and was excited about it. At the Blade Show in Atlanta last weekend I bought it for a bit less than the price listed here. This knife is really well built and has D2 Steel for the blade. I will say that it appears slightly smaller in real life than it does looking at it on this site and others sites as well. This isn't necessary a bad thing but it may be a surprise when you see it in the real. Compared to other knives it is very similar in size to another Kershaw knife-the Airlock. In comparison the Inception has a thicker liner lock and internal liners than does the Airlock. It also has a strong deep carry pocket clip compared to the Airlock's thin clip. The KVT ball bearings make for a smooth opening and covers for the pivot collar and lanyard whole are nice as well. The Airlock is an assisted opener using Kershaw's Speedsafe system and opens well without any excessive pressure on the flipper. As far as cutting both knives cut very well and I have no problems carrying either one. The reason for the comparison is this-the Airlock costs just a little over a third of the price of the Inception. It seems that for the higher price Kershaw could have added Assisted Opening and/or a framelock/lock back locking system on this knife. Two other new Kershaw knives-the Lithium and the Salvage-both incorporate those two options for a third less. The Kershaw Endgame knife has the Speedsafe, framelock and the D2 steel and is pretty much the same price as this knife. I will carry this knife as it is a great knife-it just seems Kershaw could have taken it a step further.

So far in love with this knife
Im going from a Kershaw JYD 2.2 composite to this. Size wise, MUCH better fitting in my hands, and no awkward belt clip. Flipper action is good out of the bix with some expected stiffness. This is gone after a few weeks of constant adhd flipping, so no complaints. Overall the blade shape is very useful, and it seems easier to make shave sharp than the JYD. Overall, VERY pleased with the knife
