MNTMT72BS: MT7.2 BS Folding Pry Knife, Besh Wedge Tip
Mantis Knives
You'll notice straight away, that the blade style on this knife is quite different than any other. The Besh Wedge blade design is a capable cutter but designed for the more strenuous task of prying which causes havoc on most conventional blade shapes. The techno-styled grind lines and the random divot symmetry scream MANTIS while the chisel ground, satin blade screams "use me, hard!" The knife features a deep carry pocket clip, machined G10 handles, and a strong liner lock mechanism. The unconventional Besh Wedge design allows the buyer to use the knife effectively in far more situations without fear of breaking or damaging the knife. It's a blade meant for prying and it's definitely stout enough to take whatever is thrown it's way.
Features
Hidden bottle opener
Dedicated/replaceable glass breaker
Besh Wedge tip for prying and other unique applications
Pocket Clip
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
G10 Handles
Formed in a sheet under high pressure by combining fiberglass and an epoxy resin binder. These handles are lightweight and shaped to ensure a solid grip.
S30V Stainless Steel
This incredibly popular stainless steel is one of the first powder-metal alloys developed specifically for use in cutlery. Thanks to its ability to hold an edge it remains a performance benchmark.
Pros: Ease of Opening, Blade Material, Overall Quality, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Handle Feel
Surprisingly good
I do not like liner locks, but the Mantis MT7.2 BS Folding Pry Knife has the smoothest liner lock I have ever encountered. On the other hand, the protruding lock bar is a bit of a hot spot for me, as on many liner locks. The blade opens one-handed with a middle-finger+wrist flick. The relatively blunt tip is a big plus for me. I use the knife around livestock, and I do not want to accidentally stab somebody's sensitive snout. It is also very good for prying because you can start by slipping the narrower side underneath and then wiggle the thicker side under. Then you have a fairly sturdy pry bar. This works great for things like auto battery caps, where I would otherwise look for a screwdriver. Obviously, there are limits. The serrations look strange, but they are similar to the ones on the Gerber Highbrow. Both of these knives are extremely good for cutting tough, fibrous things like ropes and twisted tarps. All in all, a solid, practical knife.
Pros: Ease of Opening, Blade Material, Overall Quality
Cons: None
Though, nice look
A very nice and original knife. Though and effective. I love the design. My only problem comes with the serrated part, which is not very useful. I should have taken it without serration, to have more blade. But the serration add to the look for sure.
I have been a knife collector for years. I can without a doubt say this is one of the best knives I own. The blade material and craftsmanship of the knife itself is great. It just feels perfect when it's in your hand. Feels like an indestructible tool when in hand. Looking at the blade and the serations it does not look as sharp as it is. Just the tip has an edge of its own. The only con I can think of, if you we're to even call it a con is I don't think I would ever be able to pry with this unless I had to. I'm sure it would be great if you we're to use it to pry I would just not want to. The bottle opener works great also.
