This knife is used/issued by United States Marine Corps

NSN: 1095-01-506-3424

Designed to Marine Corps Military specifications for attachment to M16 rifles, this bayonet features a black coated clip-point blade of a proprietary carbon steel formula, with a small 1-3/4" serrated section at the base of the blade and a sharpened upper swedge. The grooved handle is very grippy and resilient, for use with or without gloves. The hard MOLLE compatible sheath with strap down loops has drain holes for amphibious use, an embedded ceramic-coated aluminum sharpener on the back, and a sturdy ballistic nylon harness for attachment to load bearing equipment in multiple ways.

Handle is marked with USMC on one side (and on blade base) and 'globe and anchor' logo on reverse. Brown color is designed to match both woodland and desert camouflage schemes as well as to reduce IR signature.

1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.
Kydex Sheath
Kydex Sheath
Waterproof, scratch resistant, and low friction. It will hold its shape and makes a great alternative to leather.
Zytel Handles
Zytel Handles
A nylon polymer that is lightweight and extremely durable, Zytel can be shaped and textured to provide excellent grip.

pre-review of bayo-knife
This is only the second bayo-knife I have seen for my ARfiteens. The other was by ZT, a LOT more expensive and no longer available. My main issue is with the grip-heavy weight distribution- it's a little off balance, but probably to be expected in a knife that isnt designed to be a chopper. NO doubt that it is a slicer with a proper knife-edge honed into the blade. These knives will be used for opening boxes, crates, cutting rope, line, wire.. Steel seems to be a 1095 Carbon, or something very like it. Perhaps the temper is drawn down a little to make for a stronger blade, not sure on that. This will be a general purpose knife serving as a pig-sticker too, attached to my duty belt or pack. There is a Vietnam-era bayo in my collection, a thin, daggerish thing. This KNIFE bayo is miles ahead of any of that style. Carried a USMC KaBar years and years ago.. this weapon/tool is years ahead in that it is both a knife and a useful bayo that won't be left behind. IMO, YMMV!
