Ontario Knives

Compact sizing can be a huge advantage in a knife, the RAT 3 has shown that time and time again. These varied blade patterns are coupled with the RAT 3 handle shape as well and focus more on hunting and field dressing. The Skinner has a big belly with great curvature for skinning game or providing support in those small chopping tasks and is coupled with a full blade, leather sheath with retention strap, and belt-loop style carrying. The RAT-3 also follows the other RAT designs using Micarta slabbed ergonomic handles.

Love the heft and quality of the tool and sheath. The micarta handle is a great touch. Overall, the knife is well made, if only not the best design for the designation "skinner". After a few minutes on the belt grinder I was able to thin down the edge with a flat grind. Now it suites my needs better (I purchased the knife with the intentions of using it in the fashion of an Ulu or "rocking" chopper for tobacco plugs)The weight and heft makes for a good conventional chopper, but the stubby profile means you won't get the best leverage during such a task. Whatever your purposes for this blade, I recommend considering the dimensions before purchasing if you're not willing to give it a new edge.
