Cons: Ease of Opening
nice & simple, looking forward to larger sizes being released
I generally like the simplicity of Opinels, and this one delivers that. Just a simple handle and blade. The #6 is a little smaller than I prefer, but it's certainly a usable and useful size. I'm not sure why they rounded the tip on this one and I may work on grinding that to more of a point. One nice thing about Opinels - at the price point, I don't really mind experimenting on them a bit! It doesn't have a half stop and that's a feature that I really like to have on a slip joint. Hope they refine the design a little to include that. The blade is a little hard to get over the hump on the slip joint and pull it fully open. The blade is very thin and the nail nick is a bit small, so I find that the blade wants to slip out of my grip on the last part of the open, which is pretty stiff. I think this will improve as the knife breaks in, and as I get more used to using it. My knife arrived in need of stropping and I have found that to be the case with most Opinels.

Excellence you can carry in your pocket.
I have carried Opinel knives since the mid 1970's for hiking, climbing, and camping with outstanding results. I have this Neo6 from before there was a Neo6, in the #8 size and stainless steel, and it has held up well. Apparently Opinel heard from other owners about adding a lanyard (which I did myself) and also added a sleeve in the olive wood handle for these Neo6's, a nice and necessary touch. My#8 has the olive wood handle as well, and it is my favorite handle material, still looks classy with minimal care. As I write this that #8 is on my desk in my office, and two other #8's with beechwood handles are in my automobile glove box and my EDC/ First Aid Kit. They have been perfect in all those years for lighter duty cutting chores, and I recommend them without reservation.
