The MACV SOG is modeled after the MACV Bowie designed by the Studies and Observations Group or SOG during the Vietnam War. It is the basis for numerous SOG versions of the design in various shapes, sizes, and finishes. The Bark River MACV SOG pays homage to this excellent design in a knife built for both combat and survival situations. The included leather sheath has a utility pouch and button retention strap for secure carry. CPM-3V is an easily sharpened, very tough, and resistant professional grade steel that is guaranteed to give you years of worry-free usage.

SOG was named in honor of a covert US Special Ops unit that fought in Vietnam. That unit was known as Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG). Its existence once denied by the US Government, it wasn't until long after the war that the SOG story could even be told. The term Special Operations Group aptly described its real mission more accurately.
