AXIS Lock
A patented Benchmade exclusive, AXIS has been turning heads and winning fans ever since its introduction. A 100-percent ambidextrous design, AXIS gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar which rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spanning the liners and positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped, tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar it's inertia to engage the knife tang, and as a result the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself.

A nylon polymer that is lightweight and extremely durable, Zytel can be shaped and textured to provide excellent grip.

Knife failed to function after 2 weeks (randomly failed to open). The entire Axis design is flawed and extremely unreliable/temperamental. Don't believe me? Google Benchmade axis problems (especially the assisted models).Problems with the assisted products go back YEARS with no design improvements.Returning mine ASAP.
I am an electrician at a hospital and I need a knife that has fast access to the blade one handed but doesn’t immediately look like a weapon. It’s not a particularly tactical looking knife and that’s a good thing for my job as carrying a “weapon” is forbidden by law, this tool however is a must. One handed operation both open and close is simple and as DCA would put it you never have to put your fingers in the path of the blade. I own personally over 200 pocket knives and this tried and true tool is my most carried right now. Also having the option to send it in for a new edge is an awesome service through Benchmade. If you’re looking for an assisted EDC you found it!
