BO02HY005: Boker History Knife & Tool Sailor's Knife

Boker Plus

The History Knife & Tool Sailor’s Knife is a timeless maritime essential, born from the decks of international merchant ships and navy vessels. Still issued today by the German Navy under strict military specifications (TL 5110-0026), this knife stands as a testament to enduring utility and purposeful design. Its clean, unassuming form belies a tool of remarkable versatility, built around a thin, flat-ground drop-point blade that offers precise control and rugged reliability in equal measure. The saltwater-resistant ebony handle, secured with traditional brass rivets and a matching lanyard hole, pairs perfectly with its robust black leather sheath, making it ready for belt carry and constant duty, whether at sea or in the wild.

Beyond its naval legacy, the Sailor’s Knife finds a kindred spirit in the legendary Kephart Knife, an iconic tool favored by early bushcraft pioneers like Horace Kephart himself. Though separated by context and geography, the visual and functional parallels between the two knives are striking, suggesting a shared lineage rooted in practicality over ornament. Whether aboard ship or deep in the backcountry, the Sailor’s Knife embodies an archetype: a pure, no-nonsense blade forged for work, survival, and adventure.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Handle Material

Not too shabby
I bought this knife out of curiosity. It came razor sharp out of the box. I hate to pay big money for a knife only to have it show up with a mediocre edge. Not so with this one. No high cost, razor edge- what's not to like? I won't be batoning wood with it's thin flat ground blade, but that is not what I got it for. For skinning and careful butchery I think it will suit my purpose. Time will tell.

Disappointing flat grind
The knife show previews touted this as a more interesting convex grind version of this classic pattern. The production version is listed as a very underwhelming flat grind. There are tons of these available cheaply on the secondary market so I'm not sure who Boker is intending to sell this to.
