Early Roman Gladius swords were known for their wasp-waisted design and long, pointed blade, blending cutting and stabbing capabilities into a single versatile weapon. Later versions evolved to feature straighter blades while retaining the long point, and eventually, the Pompeii pattern emerged with a more robust blade, shorter point, and eliminated waist, offering ease of production without compromising effectiveness.

Throughout the 4th century, both styles were used by Legionnaires, underscoring the gladius's reputation as "the sword that conquered the world." This modern version showcases a high-carbon steel blade, a hardwood handle, and a polished steel spacer at the handle's base for added strength. It also includes a wood scabbard wrapped in black leather, with steel accents on the throat and tip.

Legacy Arms' updated Mainz Gladius features a reduced handle radius for improved grip and has been redesigned for better balance and handling with adjusted handle and blade lengths. Note that wood grains and tones will vary between swords. The scabbard has been upgraded with stainless steel fittings and a sewn leather wrap.
