CJBJ1904CF: Crag Flipper Knife, Carbon Fiber

CJRB Cutlery

The CJRB Crag is a midsize folder with a large blade designed for heavy cutting tasks. The blade is a sheepsfoot with a more clipped point that gives both a piercing point and large belly, making it great for a variety of cutting jobs. The 3.43" blade has been stonewashed to resist wear and tear during heavy use. The handles feature a large finger groove and can accommodate a large hand. The handle scales are made from contoured carbon fiber that both looks good and feels great. The knife comes with a reversible stainless steel pocket clip and has a lanyard hole milled out of the bottom of the handle.

This knife is now being produced with AR-RPM9 steel, however, the original D2 version may still be shipping. If you have a specific steel preference, please include a note in the comments section at checkout for which steel you prefer. If we do not have the steel you prefer on hand, we'll contact you, otherwise, we'll email you the tracking number once your order ships.*

Only complaint is flipper sticks out more than it needs.
I simply do not like a cleaver less hard than D2. I've studied metallurgy since 1992 and have a feel for a steel. The designation of "Budget" for D2 is wrong, if D2 is inexpensive then 154CM is too. Yet it isn't and I'll take D2 everyday over 154CM at these prices. Either that or 14C28N for a budget steel.

Great value, nice EDC
This is a very heavy-duty knife for its size. For those of us who like to keep our carry blades under 3.5", this is about as tough a cutting tool as it gets! It isn't light--5.3oz--but that is part of why it is so solid.I've done some serious cutting with this thing, jobs I wouldn't entrust to a thinner, slimmer blade. It's really not a traditional sheepsfoot blade. It has more of a point to Matt, and it's kind of like a cross between a sheepsfoot and a cleaver. It was quite sharp out of the box, but I took it up a bit more than that, and it has held the edge pretty well. The D2 seems to like a 40° sharpening angle, and is reasonably easy to sharpen, yet holds the edge decently. Kind of in between 154CM and S30V in that regard. Ergonomics are good. No hotspots, and a long enough handle so that my XL hands still get all four fingers wrapped around it. This is a little heavy to carry in dress slacks or suits, but it's good with jeans or casual pants. Also, it's a deep carry clip. The clip is pretty shiny, and would stand out a lot against dark-colored pants. Maybe a switch out to a black clip, if that is a concern. The unassisted flipper works well. Not up to the level of my ZT unassisted folders, but perfectly adequate and not at all slow or draggy. Actually, at this price point, for an unassisted big sick play like this, it opens remarkably easily. Nice solid lock up, and a move thick liner lock with good engagement. The only little niggle: When the blade is closed, the detent is not quite as strong as I would like. My first CJRB, and it won't be my last.
