Condor Tool & Knife

Ötzi is one of Europe's oldest natural preserved mummies. He is a treasure to the archaeological community due to the preservation of his remains, and his tools. In his toolkit, the Iceman had a flint dagger affixed to a wood handle. In honor of our universal human heritage, Condor presents the Otzi Knife, inspired by this hard use tool from a time when we relied on nature for our survival. It's a simple knife with a burnt American hickory wood handle with recessed wire wrap and handcrafted welted leather drop sheath.

Wood Handles
Wood Handles Provides a traditional, natural look and feel to a modern tool. Wood absorbs shock well and is popular in axe handles.
Leather Sheath
Leather Sheath Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to Kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.
1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Cons: Overall Quality, Materials, Finish
Good idea, bad execution
I like the idea of a knife made & used by an early hunter/gatherer, but produced using modern steel. The problem is in the lack of execution. The knife I received was canted to the left by about 7 degrees because the channel for the handle had been drilled off-kilter. Also, the wood was very poorly stained; you could actually see where the stain didn't cover the wooden handle. The weird gold threading on the outside of the handle is kind of uncomfortable, and you can see the adhesive used to keep it in place. I ended up removing the handle, and making a new handle from a chunk of dymondwood I had laying around. All in all, I ended up with a pretty useful knife, but the price is quite high for what turned out to be little more than a blade blank.

Cons: Blade Sharpness
cool knife except...
dull convex grind. There is no excuse for a knife to be dull like this. cool looking knife though.
