CR2265: 2265 Xolotl, Designed by Michael Rodriguez

CRKT

Inspired by an ancient Aztec deity, built for the modern world. Adorned in detail yet powerfully simple, the Xolotl - pronounced "show-low-tl" - is an everyday carry folding knife with a tactical spirit. It hardly occupies more space than a fountain pen but comes out swinging with a fast flipper opening and a sleek, spear-point blade. From the 14th century battlefield to the modern pocket, the Xolotl is the knife to have on hand.

Channeling his heritage, veteran Michael Rodriguez designed the Xolotl in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Drawing inspiration from the deity Xolotl, Michael crafted the grippy G10 skeleton-like handle to pay homage to the god's legendary purpose: to transport souls to the afterlife. Take a closer look and you'll see 21 ribs—one for each of his years of service.

The blade has one sharp and one false edge that converge in a strong spear point best for fine slicing. A solid flipper is designed for fast opening and a liner lock holds the blade firmly in place even amid hard use. A detailed sternum-shaped clip carries the Aztecan story and allows for a discreet carry in a pocket or on MOLLE systems.

Channel the lore of an underworld deity with the Xolotl.

About the Forged By War program

In 2013, Ryan Johnson of RMJ Tactical, designer of elite, military, tactical tomahawks, approached CRKT with the news that he had been working with a few combat veterans that had returned from war with varying degrees of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

To help work through their challenges, they have been designing and forging steel into custom tools. Drawing from their experience earned in combat situations, they have been creating tools they wished they had available to them on the battlefield.

CRKT cares deeply about our returning veterans and they saw a way to give back to the community that created them. In 2016, they launched the Forged By War program.

These are mission ready tools, designed by veterans, with 10% of the CRKT net profits of the program donated to the veterans' charity of choice.

Cons: Ease of Opening, Lock Ease of Use, Lock Type
not the greatest!
This piece appears to be well constructed and very solid. Opening and closing the blade is nowhere near as easy as it appears to be in the Quick Flick video. It requires a great deal of pressure to open the blade and the liner lock mechanism didn't lock the blade out properly until I bent it a bit inward. Overall I'm not thrilled with the purchase.

Awesome Blade
Very nice knife. Yes, the reference to the Aztec deity is correct. Its styling is reminding of the Aztec Empire like the gods Quetzalcoatl and his nemesis Tezcatlipoca. Very nice blade. Highly recommended with the excellent customer service from Knifecenter as usual.

The Rodriguez XOLOTL is excellent.
I ordered the Michael Rodriguez Xolotl based on the unique design. I was very pleased when I first handled the knife. Very sharp, with an excellent blade grind wrapped in an ergonomic handle. The handle also can be used for defensively, as it comes to a strong point. This knife will pierce and slice just about anything. The Xolotl will definitely go in my EDC rotation.
