CRK230XXP: K230XXP Facet Assisted - Ken Onion Design
Columbia River (CRKT)
Ken Onion is known for his sleek and practical designs, and the K230XXP is no exception. The angles and facets of the handle complement the slim design and angular shape of the blade. Equipped with CRKT's IKBS ball bearing pivot system and an assisted open mechanism, this blade rockets open like you wouldn't believe. The blade is made from sturdy D2 steel for exceptional edge retention and a satin finish. The frame lock utilizes a thick lock bar to secure the blade firmly. With the addition of a deep carry pocket clip, the Facet is easy to carry without drawing attention to it or getting in the way.
About the Knife Designer
Ken Onion - "Though I have been a devout knife collector since childhood, collecting mostly production knives and anything else I could find, I was unaware of the custom knife industry until 1989 when I saw an issue of Knives Illustrated at a local drug store. From there I found a local knife maker named Stan Fujisaka and begged him to teach me. I made my first knife in November 1991 and have continued the craft since.á While recovering from back surgery in 1996, I decided to try to design a folder that was easier to manipulate than what was available, and not a switchblade. The result was the first assisted opening knife I called "Speed Safe" After finding some information on the whole patent process and consultation from an attorney, I got my first patent, creating a whole new category of knives between manual and auto."
Steel Handles
Stainless Steel knife handles provide strength and durability and look and feel great.
Pocket Clip
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
D2 Tool Steel
This semi-stainless tool steel offers great value, thanks to a high degree of edge retention that can often rival more expensive steels.
Frame Lock
Developed by Chris Reeve, it functions like a liner lock but the lock is comprised of one of the handle scales. It's an extremely strong and easy to manipulate lock.

Columbia River CRKT K230XXP Ken Onion Facet Assisted Flipper Knife 3.37" D2 Satin Plain Blade, Stainless Steel Handles
The flipper is small but works well. The knife has a great heft to it which is reassuring on tough tasks but still sits in the pocket very well with the deep pocket clip. It is tough, has a nice long blade, and is easy to open and close. On top of that it looks classy. Additionally, the frame lock is strong and the jimping on the flipper and on the spine of the blade are excellently designed. CRKT gives another awesome design at an great price. The blade shape and usage is similar to the Benchmade Osborne but $250 cheaper. Around the office, warehouse, or worksite this knife is tough enough to handle most tasks while not cheating you on looks. Very highly recommend.

Pros: Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Lock Ease of Use, Lock Type, Pocket Clip
Cons: Blade Sharpness, Weight
I Like it
I got this as an impulse buy. I like it. Been carrying it for a while. As others have said, opening it up can be hard due to the small side of the opening tab. On the other hand that tab doesn't stick out when you don't want it sticking out. Assist works well. Movement of the blade is smooth. The lock is tight. Clip holds it in your pocket nicely. For baseball mitt hand sizes like mine, the narrowness can make you fumble sometimes. It has good looks. The blade edge was sharp but rough. I sharpened it and it looks nicer. I am no knife expert. I don't even know all the parts. I have over sixty pocket knives. I figured to know what you like, you need to try out a bunch. Now I can't help but try out a lot of different designs. This one I like. The narrow blade allowed me yesterday to cut some zip ties holding a camera to a fence. It did so easily. I'll be carrying this around.
