CS20NQLBKBK: 20NQL-BKBK Medium Luzon, Black

Cold Steel

Lynn C. Thompson's love of the Filipino Martial Arts inspired him to develop the Luzon Folders. Drawing inspiration from several balisongs in his collection, but functioning as a flipper, the Luzons are a politically correct alternative for those who are unable to legally own balisongs. The Luzon's blades are comprised of 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, and expertly hardened to 57-58 Rockwell and feature sharp, strong, points with just enough belly to make them equally useful for cutting and slashing. You'll be dreaming of the Philippines once you experience the Luzon's bamboo-inspired handles, featuring concave segments that offer countless comfortable grip options. Made of glass-filled nylon (GFN), the Luzon's handles are impervious to the elements, and are unlike any handle Cold Steel has ever made before.

Handsome, budget-friendly, and a breeze to flip open, the Luzons are a formidable choice for those going in harm's way. Offering incomparable levels of safety, they're equipped with a sturdy leaf-spring lock and a (patent-pending) secondary safety mechanism that, when it's engaged is extremely resistant to shock and impact. It will keep your fingers safe even under the worst conditions. Available in two sizes, both feature a lanyard hole and right-hand GFN pocket clip.

Big Little Brother Carries Well
I purchased this medium Luzon along with its big brother Large Luzon. They are both great knives; the medium knife makes a good quality rugged EDC option. Though it is 9 inches long when open, it's comparatively slim profile makes for practical pocket carry, and that's how I intend to use it.The knife has a "safety" embedded in the bolster. Once the knife is open, sliding the safety forward will jam the liner lock in the locked position, keeping the blade securely open. This is a nice feature that enhances the safety on a relative weak point of liner-locks. It does not operate to keep the knife locked in the closed position, and this would have been an even nicer feature. The handle texture and bamboo-ish segments make for a comfortable and secure grip. The cross-section of the knife is more or less square at the middle of the bolsters, with corners that are more boxy than average. This not uncomfortable and counteracts any tendency of the slim-ish knife to rotate in one's hand. The pocket clip is molded from the same material as the bolsters and cannot be relocated. So, tip up right-hand carry is the only option. The clip feels very secure installed on my pocket, something that was less true of its longer, much heavier big brother. This knife is 3.5 ounces, while the big brother is almost 14" open and 9.2 ounces. I am unable to open the knife with the thumb stud. It has a sharp end and is buried too deep in the bolster notch. However, the flipper stud works great, and the knife snaps open with a satisfying "clack!" The knife feels well made and rugged and should withstand heavy use.

Great EDC
Great design and well-built. Typical Cold Steel quality, and this model is certainly worth it's price here. Lightweight and ergonomics are spot on for me (I have XL hands and wear a size 14 surgical glove). Blade is centered when closed, sharp out of the box and a good EDC length (could be used for self-protection, if pressed). I usually remove the pocket clip on all my folders, as what's in my pocket is no one's business. This clip stays on, as I use it so often when I carry it. Must be careful, as the blade length may be considered a concealed weapon in many districts, which is no problem if you are certified to CCW.Good knife and worth its price! P.s: I've been buying knives from KC now for many years, and I have yet to need the services of their "Help, Complaint, Service" departments. Superior cutlery supplier!
