These hawks are good throwers with some experierience.
The frontier style throwing hawk is made so the iron blade friction fits on a 19"hickory handle by tapping the top of the hawk on a hard surface so blade ring bites into wood handle wider at the topfor tight friction fit as long as handle holds blade tight with about an inch or so remaining above locked steel blade. Eventually a new hickory handle is required. Will Take100s of throws. Can stick hawk 3-4 times before tapping down on a rock oranything hard so forged blade will work up tight on larger top end of hickory handle to lock blade Solid for next throws. I keep blade real sharp for sticking but only use for splitting small fire wood kindling it's main use is a sharp sticking weapon for throwing. Always sticks from right distance. To far away & you'll hit target on top end of wood handle above the blade. & if standing too close the bottom end of handle will hit before blade sticks. If blade is sharp and distance is perfect I can stick my hawk 10 times in a row. It's not a firewood tool but as a frontier era war hawk used correctly "it can kill".
