FOXFX526CF: FX-526 CF Voxnaes Suru

Fox Knives

Fox Knives is entering uncharted territory with the Jesper Voxnaes-designed Suru. This is the first frame lock we know of in which the frame is made entirely of carbon fiber, with a steel insert on the lock to provide a solid experience.

The knife can be opened with either a flipper or a small blade cutout. A ball-bearing pivot ensures smooth and consistent action, making the Suru a joy to open.

Small but mighty, the handles are designed to accommodate a variety of grips, bringing the 2.32" clip point blade to bear. The finger guard provided by the flipper provides protection for your fingers, but for even closer work a generous choil in front of the flipper/guard allows you to choke up for more precision. The handle length can even be lengthened by adding a lanyard or custom bead with the included lanyard hole, providing extra style and grip for your pinky finger.

Böhler M390 steel backs up the good looks of the Suru with serious performance, providing some of the best edge retention available in a folding knife.

Completing the package is bronze-colored titanium hardware, including a milled pocket clip in a tip-up, right side carry configuration. Stylish and functional, a blacked zirconium ball bearing rests in the clip to look great and ease extraction from your pocket.

Still no joy...
I took the advise of the previous reviewer & installed Skiff bearings in my SURU. There was a very minor change in blade action & smoothness but the flipper tab remains the only way to operate this knife. There may be an inherent problem with my example.

Cons: Ease of Opening, Lock Ease of Use
It just needed Skiffs
The action on this little gem was very stiff out of the box. The flipper would work with added wrist, but flicking with the hole was highly impractical. I thought it was lock bar/detent pressure, but swapping in a pair of Skiff bearings (5mm pivot, 1/16in bearings) has made the knife quite snappy.

Update on previous review...
After carrying this knife for a while I can say this. I am still disappointed in the action of this knife. For the $$ this should be a much better knife. I have dissembled & polished the steel lock bar insert & blade contact areas & even cut in flipper tab jimping (which I'm sure has voided the warranty). This has made it easier to engage & disengage the blade but because of the excessive lock bar pressure, thumb flicking or reverse flicking this blade remains absolutely impossible. This purchase has been a HUGE disappointment. Fox Knives, if you read this you should do something to make this right. I can NOT recommend this knife to anyone. FOX, please feel free to contact me through KC. I am a a huge fan of Jesper Voxnaes & own several examples of his work but this piece does not do him justice. If this were a "Budget" knife it would be a different story but IT'S NOT. I challenge you to make this right!
