There's a lot to learn from the past, but some things are better today. The Downwind Series is Gerber's nod to the aesthetics of the past, married with the materials of the modern-day. Layered machined G10 scales provide a grip that increases when wet or bloody while delivering a traditional look. Subtle jimping on the spine and positive control choils throughout the hand ergonomics empowers users to maintain a certain control over the knife. A tall grind is excellent for delivering clean cuts. The Downwind Series is housed in waxed canvas sheaths, paying homage to the tools of our forefathers.

Nice knife BUT!!
I bought this to add to my skinning collection, so I purchased from Gerber and personally have never been so disappointed in a gerber product (I own several of them) in my life.Pros first. It's sharpFeels good in the hand, well balanced.CONsThe blade looks like a piece of metal scavenged from junk yard. Definitely unfinished.The sheath is a totally different story. It looks as if it's made by 10 yr old Chinese kids who never learned to sew! It's light, like a Jean material, with a plastic coffee can lid cut out and glued to the Jean fabric. I wish I could post a picture here to show you.All in all it comes sharpened, and has great balance. And if you have any leather working abilities to manufacture a new sheath, then by all means buy it. If not, go look at a Knives of Alaska Ulu
