Description

GMOJUTLANDBLP: ACE Jutland Folding Knife - Burlap Micarta

GiantMouse

Jutland is a low-lying peninsula in Western Denmark, which separates the North and Baltic seas and borders Germany to the South. It is also the name of this impressive ACE folder, designed for the outdoorsmen and hunters among us. The Jutland draws inspiration from the popular limited edition GM8. The contoured Burlap Micarta handles provide a non-slip grip, even while out in wet conditions. Add in the reversible pocket clip and flipper tab and you have a knife built for any end user.

Pros: Blade Material, Blade Sharpness, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Handle Material, Pocket Clip
Cons: Lock Ease of Use, Overall Quality
Problem with the liner lock.
The PVD coating interface might have ruined the tolerances and made the liner lock too tight. Closing this knife feels like winding a clock-work mechanism.

Dream knife ruined by GM
I love burlap micarta. It's my favorite handle material. I have dozens of knives with this handle material from expensive to cheapo level. I understand the little imperfections of it and am not uptight about variance and flaws that come with its use. Like the title says though... this might be the worst example of burlap handle scales I've ever put hands on. Overall, the example I received had these quality issues: 1.) Lock bar barely engaged tang of knife and I would not trust the knife in use. 2.) The burlap micarta had cracks around the liner lock access in the cutout area where it is thinner and literal large sections are weak and clearly vulnerable to breaking out completely. 3.) There are numerous large gaps and voids around both sides of the pivot hardware and all the other body screws. 4.) Finally, the action came impregnated with metal filings that were not cleaned out from final machining. It was a total let down for me and I had to return it. I still want one but can't bring myself to buy another after returning the hot mess I received the first time. I hope you have better luck.

Really Nice Knife, Except . . .
I love the blade shape and material. The overall shape and feel of the knife is great. I have no trouble using the flipper tab, thumb flicking, or reverse flicking. The wire pocket clip is reversable, which is a must for lefties like me. It even came with a bonus "solid" pocket clip, which I haven't tried out yet.The only qualm that I really have is the micarta scales. Where they are cut out - at the flipper location, around the thumb hole, and both ends (basically the whole perimeter) the fabric is exposed and very rough. Not the craftsmanship that I expect from GiantMouse. And definitely inferior to what I'd expect for a $245 knife - of any brand.
