The Lightyear is an entry in the Kershaw Starter Series, designed as a slim, effective knife at an attractive price. The first thing you'll notice about the Lightyear is its horn-like profile. Despite the handle's slim design, it stays ergonomic in the hand for long periods of time. The grippy handle is made of glass-filled nylon, featuring recessed grooves that are pleasing to the eye and hand. A modified spear point blade provides plenty of cutting area and strength for most work tasks. It opens quickly and with authority, thanks to the SpeedSafe assisted opening mechanism designed by Ken Onion. Finally, a deep-carry clip keeps the knife discreet in the pocket and secure at all times.

Perfect Pocket Knift
I run a bookstore where I have to cut myriad boxes, plastic, string, and other random materials all day. I keep this Kershaw in the right pocket of my jeans; you barely notice it's there, can whip it out and flick it open with no effort, and close it with ease. It cuts perfectly, has held a sharp edge for many months now.

Fast and light
Purchased this for it's looks and my familiarity with Kershaw's SpeedSafe assisted opening. It feels light and dress pants capable. The frame is fairly slim, almost Hot Wire slim. Very sharp out of the box and I expect to use this for very light applications. The steel is your common Chinese steel which is inexpensive, effective and easy to sharpen. Can't complain for it's price. Just a reminder, the SpeedSafe has a strong spring tension that puts up resistance on the blade once your closing it.
