MNTMF1C: MF-1C Con Brillo

Mantis Knives

Mantis Knives describes this item as follows:

The "Con Brillo" scratches the itch that we get EVERY time we leave a custom knife show.

While inside one of these shows, we're bombarded with precious stones, amazing filework and high-lustre metal. The only problem with these amazing pieces of art is the price tag... until now.

We polished this beauty to an amazing lustre. It's as close to 'mirror' as anyone in knife manufacturing has ever been, and now it can be yours.

Pros: Blade Material, Blade Sharpness, Finish, Handle Material, Materials
Cons: Overall Quality, Sheath/Scabbard, Weight
Handle is a disaster .
Knife is made of good steel, will most likely take a good edge. The handle is not only too wide, but there is nothing you can do about it. No excess metal to remove, it is sturdy enough you cannot bend it smaller your just stuck. The angle of the blade in relation to the handle seems wrong making it good to stab someone with but useless for fine work. The balance is all wrong with most of the weight in the handle. The sheath is cheap but serviceable but again the handle is too big to use the retaining straps. The box says it is the best knife in the world. I think that Mantis has not compared their product to very many knives. Even at an extreme discount I am sorry I purchased this knife.

Pros: None
Cons: Overall Quality, Materials
No...
The first one I had was obtained thorugh a trade. It broke doing some rather light duty prying. Snapped the blade right in half. Looking at the metal cross section, it was obvious junk. I figured I'd order one for myself...just as a general beater knife, sans prying anything. When I got it, the blade was crooked, like several degrees crooked to the left. Horrible. I wouldn't even use this as a beater knife. Just... no.

Pros: Blade Sharpness
Cons: Handle Material, Overall Quality, Sheath/Scabbard
Good concept bad execution
Well the blade is usable but that handle design just does not work. Yes it's intended to be wrapped with para cord but the handle is pretty wide to start with and once a single layer of cord is added, the grip gets uncomfortably large . Worst of all, once wrapped, it's impossible fasten the knife to the sheath as the securing loops are just long enough for an unwrapped handle. All in all, the concept just wasn't executed properly.
