Description

MYPGLK125: Golok 125

MY Parang

While the Chandong is common in East Malaysia, the Golok is more often seen in West Malaysia. The functionality of this tool ranges from skinning animals and cutting weeds to opening coconuts. Its blade shape favors more intricate cutting rather than chopping and slicing. The attractive wood handle is durable and remains grippy regardless of the conditions. The carbon steel used is ideal for tools of this nature because of its natural hardness. It handles rugged use well and has exceptional hardness.

Primary backcountry tool
I have been using this tool for a little over a year, and it continues to impress me. I have several other parangs, goloks, and machetes I use as well, but this is the one I carry 9/10 times. Why? Its super light weight, chops limbs and small trees into kindling easily. It batons well, but being careful not to hit the spine handle side is important. Best of all it works great at basic knife duties. I have put a slightly steeper edge handle near the handle for carving, and you can't even see because of the slight recurve in the blade. With this golok my leatherman and a folding bucksaw, I've gone on several winter camping trips. Never did I feel like I needed additional tools or that they would fail. The only complaint is that the sheath while adequate, is nothing special. However, because of the quality and craftsmanship of this knife I invested in some nice leather for it to ride in on my hip.
