This Opinel 10-piece assortment includes ten 1.875" to 6.25" closed folding knives with carbon steel blades and beechwood handles. Most, but not all, have a safety ring for locking the blade. Stabilized beechwood is ultra-resistant and comfortably contoured to fit the hand. X90 Carbon steel, with high carbon content, is what makes it possible to achieve excellent hardness after heat treatment, guaranteeing the strength of the cutting edge, resistance to wear, and ease of sharpening. The hardness obtained after heat treatment are theoretically slightly greater in steels that do not contain chrome. The cutting strength is, therefore, better with a carbon steel knife and sharpening is much easier than stainless steel blades which contain chrome. However, carbon has a low resistance to corrosion caused by moisture, which means that certain precautionary measures are necessary when using and storing carbon knives: it's recommended that you avoid damp environments and that you dry the blade after each use.
