Most early WWI trench knives were handmade by individual soldiers or blacksmiths, often modified from Army-issued bayonets that were sharpened and shortened.

The first official U.S. trench knife adopted for service was the US M1917, designed by Henry Disston & Sons and based on French Army examples. The M1917 featured a triangular stiletto blade, wooden grip, metal knuckle guard, and a rounded pommel. Within months, the nearly identical M1918 followed, differing mainly in the construction and appearance of the knuckle guard. During World War II, the US Mark I was issued in 1942 and 1943 to airborne troops, Army Rangers, and Marine Raiders. It featured a full-tang, double-edged blade with a heavy bronze hilt shaped as a knuckle duster.

Embodying historical lineage and modern design, the Trench Raider is a refined take on the classic trench knife. More true-to-size than the oversized Lady Death, it measures 11.63" overall with a 7.19" CPM-3V double-edge dagger blade and a prominent central fuller. The knuckle duster-style handle protects the hand while the aggressive outer profile enhances raking effectiveness. Its design draws inspiration from the knuckles carried by President Lincoln’s bodyguard. G10 scales with a checkered texture provide grip in both wet and dry conditions, secured by electro-anodized Grade 5 titanium fasteners in a bronze finish. The Trench Raider includes a canvas and leather sheath with a front-mounted pouch and lighter- each one unique, with a few surprise details hidden in select units.
