Interesting alternative to a gentleman's folder
I've grown fond of carrying this around in an urban environment. I am always on the lookout for good work knives I can use publicly without concerning anyone. This one absolutely fits the bill, and is a great deal for the price. This is basically Grandpa's penknife, people aren't alarmed.By design it is difficult to open and close: not only is the liner lock strongly bent towards the blade, there's also a high-resistance slipjoint mechanism similar to the other Old Timer pocket knives, so there's a lot of force going against the blade. I have grown to like the stiffness, given how I use the knife. But you may prefer the similar 3.19" Old Timer, which is a flipper. This one is 100% a two-handed folder. I was happy buying both, I might give the flipper to a friend.The blade on this was sharp enough to easily cut a held sheet of paper and can probably be sharpened to a razor without too much trouble. It's a good slicer. The handle is pretty comfortable too, more so than the other Chinese-made Old Timers, and accommodates a lot of different grips. Seems like you could do good detail work with this. I have not actually tried whittling with it.This knife would be perfect for me if it was slightly less stiff and used a thumbnail groove instead of a thumbstud. But that's nitpicking. I'm glad I grabbed this one.
