If you can handle the weight, an axe is one of those tools you'd trade many others for in a survival situation. It can perform all the duties of a good saw, large fixed blade, and a small survival knife. If sharpened correctly it can also feather a stick and create some extremely fine kindling. This is one of those axes that can do all this and more. It measures 29" overall with an American hickory wood handle. The 7.5" carbon steel axe head has a 4.25" blade and is superbly attached - that sucker isn't going anywhere. It has an extremely nice feeling whether you're holding an inch away from the head or an inch away from the butt end - it's just very well balanced. Of course it's got a hammer pommel on the other side of the axe for banging in tent pegs and the entire package weighs 5.25 pounds with the leather blade guard.

Head flew off
I bought this axe in December 2021. Used it heavily over the next few months to cut firewood for my daughter. Sometime in 2024, I think, I was using it for trail maintenance and the head flew off. I had the head reinstalled, but now when I use it for a few strokes, the head moves up the shaft and i must pound it back down. In all due respects, your comment that the head won't come off is not so, at least in my experience. I emailed Snow & Nealley; the email could not be delivered. I used the contact us form on the website and have not received a reply as of yet; maybe I will in a few days.The axe works well when the head stays on. I do like the axe, but am very disappointed that the head won't stay on.
