Description

SP101MPCW2: C101MPCW2 CruWear Manix 2 - Brown Canvas Micarta

Spyderco

This incredible expression of the best-selling Manix 2 combines all the proven features of the standard version with a blade ground from state-of-the-art CPM-CruWear tool steel. The leaf-shaped profile of the Manix 2's blade provides a long, gently curved cutting edge and a sturdy, utilitarian point. For maximum control, it features a forefinger choil and a thumb ramp with strategic jimping (textured grooves) that allow a forward-positioned grip during detailed cutting tasks. The 14mm Trademark Round Hole proudly announces the knife's Spyderco pedigree and makes one-handed deployment with either hand swift and positive.

This Manix 2's handle adorns brown Canvas Micarta scales that are the signature color of Spyderco's elite family of CruWear knives. To ensure convenient carry and instant access, the handle includes a reversible spring steel clip that mounts to either side of the handle butt for ambidextrous tip-up carry. It also features an oversized lined lanyard hole for easy attachment of fobs and lanyards.

Linking the blade and handle is Spyderco's patented Ball Bearing Lock mechanism. This high-strength lock consists of a ball bearing nested within a durable textured polymer "cage." When the blade is opened, a compression spring drives the cage forward to wedge the ball bearing between a ramp on the blade tang and the steel frame anchored between the handle halves. Drawing the caged ball bearing to the rear releases the lock and allows the blade to close smoothly while keeping your fingers safely away from the sharp edge.

Pros: Blade Material, Blade Sharpness, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Lock Type, Overall Quality, Pocket Clip
Cons: Lock Ease of Use
Very nice blade, though springs are very strong
I owned a Manix 2 about 8 years ago, blue FRN handles, basic steel, but a sweet knife, buttery smooth on opening and closing. I bought this Cruewear version for the look and feel of the micarta scales and the OP blade steel. Not disappointed, but was surprised how stiff the opening and closing felt compared to my older less luxurious Manix 2. The action on this is just stiff, because the springs are VERY strong compared to my older Manix 2. Hoping they loosen up over time.

I carry this knife everyday and use it on everything. I eat with it , I cut limbs , I open everything with it , I cut tie down straps. The thing will not get dull. The best knife I've ever owned and I collect knives . Needless to say I love it.

Favorite large pocketknife
I compare the build quality of this knife to my sabenza. I compare its ergonomics to my griptilian. But it's a Spyderco, and it's just as solidly built as the PM2 or a Delica or anything else they make. Wonderful blade geometry, and even a decent factory edge. I've aleady stained the handle, but that's what canvas micarta is for. No rust on the blade yet, though I may just cold blue it if it looks like it's rusting. It's not for going to the beach and that's fine by me. Literally the only con of this knife is that it stains, but that shouldn't stop you from getting it if you plan to actually use it. The patina is the point. If you're looking for something with a blade larger than 3 inches, and it has to fold, you couldn't do much better than this.
