Spyderco has always taken great pride in its efforts to push the envelope of performance by offering exotic blade steels in their knives. With that spirit in mind, they are proud to announce that they are offering a number of best-selling models with blades crafted from K390. Manufactured by Bohler-Uddeholm, K390 MICROCLEAN is a state-of-the-art cold work tool steel produced by the particle metallurgy process. Its advanced alloy mix was specifically developed to provide the extreme wear resistance and high compressive strength needed in industrial cutting, blanking, and punching operations. Despite its toughness, its exceptionally fine, homogeneous microstructure also makes it readily machinable and easy to heat treat. Collectively, these qualities make K390 an outstanding blade material for true steel connoisseurs. Spyderco is proud to feature it on some of their most popular models, which are also distinguished with distinctive blue-colored handles.
Please note: K390 is a high-performance, non-stainless steel that can rust if cared for improperly. Always make sure to clean and dry your blade after use, and apply oil or other rust-inhibiting products if needed.
Zytel Handles
A nylon polymer that is lightweight and extremely durable, Zytel can be shaped and textured to provide excellent grip.
Pocket Clip
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
Lockback
The lockback system has been used for many decades. It can usually be found on the knife spine and it provides a strong lockup that will wear well.
Made in Japan
The exotic steel Capital of the World, Japan produces and innovates some of the best products, from pocket to kitchen knives and everything in between.
Spyderco quality, what can I say! The FRN handles are grippy and light but still well balanced with the meat of the blade surprisingly. I like that this knife has some heft. Lockback action is so smooth and tight, no play, blade stays centered throughout. The quality of this knife is definitely present–this thing is SHARP and stays sharp (K390 is magic). Its a solid knife for everyday carry, but not necessarily one you can beat up and neglect. Pocket clip can be kinda awkward in the palm but thats just personal, this knife is otherwise ergonomic and straightforward.
I've been looking for a modern folder in carbon steel for quite some time. Always seemed to strike out or exceed my price range. Didn't stumble upon the endura K390 until I recently lost my VG10 endura and started the hunt for a replacement. Haven't put it to the test much other than cutting up some boxes and fruit. It definitely patinas quickly and has a beautiful shimmer to the blade. This is as close to perfect for me being carbon steel Spyderco with a great reputation for cutting. Almost removed a star for the uneven grind, but just gives me an excuse to re-profile. Would have expected a better grind on $150 knife. Overall thought, very satisfied. Would like to see more color options in K390.
The Endura has been my favorite EDC knife since they came out, particularly the FRN. Even with needing to deburr the hole... just the ergonomics, ease of deployment and re-pocketing etc... have NOT been superseded. Not to mention KCI service! But Spyderco's K390!!! I've been into knives and steels for 56 years. This treatment really does blow my mind. I'd buy multiple more right now, had I money! I LITERALLY just cut up my used up MerrilL boot with it and it still shredded paper like it was unaffected. And that with the FACTORY edge. penetrated/sliced shoe layers and Vibram soul with ease. Blade looks untouched. THEN cut paper like a razor. Looking for more Spydies and fixed blades in the future. [Feel free to share this review with Golden...]Thanks and Carry on KCI!
